Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 (21-ounce) can apple pie filling
  • 2 cups pre-sliced apples
  • 1 refrigerated pie crust
  • 2 tablespoons apple juice concentrate, thawed
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

Combine the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, apple pie filling and sliced apples in a large bowl.

Heat a 10-inch cast iron skillet or oven-proof pan over medium-high heat, and add the pie filling. Once mixture begins to bubble, unroll pie crust over skillet. With a wooden spoon, push down edges of crust into pie. Cut steam slit in crust and brush with apple juice concentrate and sprinkle with sugar. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool 1 hour before slicing.

"The Fastest & Best Tasting Apple Pie Ever!"

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I recently caught the episode where Sandra made this wonderful and easy to prepare Apple Pie made in a cast iron skillet. I... couldn't believe what few ingredients it required to make this dessert. I have many cast iron skillets of all sizes and chose to do this recipe in a 12 inch skillet. I purchased low-fat apple pie filling and decided to use 6 Golden Delicious Apples. I decided to use my apple corer, peeler, slicer gadget that I have had for many years. It made for the perfect thin sliced applies for this recipe. I honestly believe this is the key for this recipe to be a success. Very thinly sliced fresh applies. I also decided to add about 2 tbsp. more of brown sugar with the amount already required for the recipe. It was very easy to combine the canned applie pie filling with my sliced applies - just folding them easily as to not break the very thin cut fresh applies. I did absolutely everything Sandra suggested - even brushing the store bought crust with apple juice, scoring it & sprinkling sugar on top of the crust ( I even added alittle more for a more cruncher crust). The cast iron skillet was placed on my cookie sheet and I baked it at the required time in my oven. The cookie sheet is very important to have underneath because it WILL boil over some. But the Apple Pie was just perfect!! My husband could smell the great aroma of this pie outside our home. After cooking, we enjoyed every single bite. We added Low Fat Cool Whip for an added bonus. I personally do not understand why the other viewers had disappointing results with this recipe. I have only made it once and I have been cooking & baking over 43 years and I regularly do all the dessert baking at home and for our church. I who would highly recommend this recipe for anyone to try - especially maybe a new bride who is just learning how to bake. Thanks Sandra for a easy and very tasteful recipe!Read more

Great and Easy to do!! Thanks Sandra Lee

Thank you Sandra Lee!!! I followed the receipe exactly, but I only had a 12 inch teflon Skillet so I used it. It could go... in the oven at 400%, so that is what I did. We loved this, it was so easy and great tasting!!! I wouldn't change a thing, except I am going out and find a 10 inch skillet. Love in Christ, MariaRead more

    Awesome Apple Pie!!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I had a lot of fresh apples from going apple picking with the grandbaby and decided to look up an apple pie recipe on food... network and found this great recipe. Easy to make and well worth it. The apple pie had an excellent taste and paired well with vanilla ice cream! My husband even went back for seconds. I made it according to the directions and didn't change anything. Read more

THIS ONE IS AS EASY AS PIE!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
Each time I make this pie it gets easier! I pretty much follow the recipe but I make certain I melt the butter in the cast... iron skillet and allow the fresh apple slices to cook a little before adding the rest of the ingredients and baking it in the oven. I have used whatever apples I happen to have on hand and I still get raves about the pie whenever I make it. I have also added extras such as raisins, dried cranberries or dried cherries. After you have made it once, it is easy to let your imagination to be as creative as you want. Best of all, whenever I get unexpected company I can literally throw this pie together and have the house smell all so inviting to my visitors. My company thinks I am just this marvelous little baker when in reality I am definitely not!!Read more
