I read the reviews before making and took the advise of others - reducing the brown sugar to 1/3 cup (instead of 1/2 - and I used 2 granny smith apples and one fuji (which I sliced thin. We loved the pie. Ate the whole thing in one night (2 of us. The others were right, the crust was to die for!

I guess I will have to give up on Sandra's recipes. As usual there was not enough detail, how thick to slice the apple if you like them crisp how long if you want them soft how long. The kind of apples use make a difference in texture and taste. My family was disappointed they thought it was too sweet and thought it was missing something. No one had a second piece.

This recipe is really delicious. I baked it in a deep cast iron skillet, so it didn't run over in the oven and there was no need for a drip pan underneath. I couldn't wait to try it, so I ate a big bite right out of the oven. Oh, yummmmmm! The recipe went right in my recipe box.

I am not much of a baker but this pie was sooooo easy and so good. I sliced my 2 apples rather thin but not extremely thin. I used an apple slicer and then cut each slice in half again. I cooked the filling on the stove top for about 10 minutes before I put it in the oven. I couldnt tell the difference between the canned apples and mine. I wasnt sure if I was supposed to peel the apple so I didnt and it turned out great. I will make this again.

We really liked this pie it was soooo easy. The way it bubbled up was really pretty and country looking. I used Smart Balance for butter and Splenda brown and white sugar and it was great. Had no problem with the apples being cooked enough. It is a fun and easy desert for guests too.

Easy and delicious. I have used other fruits (peach and cherry with excellent results. In fact a couple of friends request my pies often. I have also found that I can reduce the amount of butter and sugar for friends that are counting each and every calorie.
Keep up the excellent recipes, Sandra. I love your table displays. Thank you.
