Have made multiple batches using this recipe and always a great hit with the guests! Best in a real mint julep cup, but an old fashion glass also works well. Highly recommended, crisp, fresh and refreshing. Don't go cheap on the bourbon, good spirits equals good drink later!

This recipe was perfect for a party as it made a batch large enough for a party of 7 people to have at least one drink. Everyone who had it gave it RAVE reviews. Sweet and satisfying, and with the perfect amount of mint taste. It was strong enough that you could taste the bourbon without being too overwhelmed by the flavour; I followed the advice of others here and dialed back the ratio of bourbon / syrup to 3 cups / 1 cup and it was lovely. 1 change: I soaked the mint leaves for the "extract" for about 30 mins. Also I slightly crushed the leaves up before leaving them to soak--I just rolled them between my palms briefly, just enough to bruise the leaves a bit so the flavour came out easier. I ended up using 3 tbsps of extract. This is the perfect drink to sip outside in a backyard on a warm summer's evening! Definitely a must-try. Easy to make as well, since you can prep it the night before--just pack glasses with ice and pour. Add mint sprigs and little straws, and voila!

Great! I used 4 tablespoons of my mint "extract". I tried it before I set it to "marry" overnight and thought I was not going to like the final product, but the next day it was fantastic. A HUGE hit with everyone.

(Haven't made it yet, but am forced to rate, so... I gotta put a 3... Curious why one wouldn't simply make a mint simple syrup, rather than the extract?

I went with the three cups bourbon and it was wonderful...almost as good as being at the Derby...it gets better with every sip. Great idea to make it ahead of time.

This is a strong drink, and o sooo delicious! I made these in honor of my Grandmother who made these every year for the Kentucky Derby. It's the perfect drink to sip on all afternoon and enjoy races while basking in the shade of a huge hat. In my case it was the celebration of a new lawn. However, next time I'll "marry" the flavors. I didn't do that this time, and the mint was somewhat lost in the julep.

This was fabulous! People who don't normally indulge, as well as beer drinkers, came back for 2nd and 3rd drinks. I backed it off to 3 cups of bourbon, which was excellent, then added 3-1/2 on a second batch -- everyone liked the first batch better.

The drink is fantastic. I prepared this recipe two years ago and it went over well with everyone. Even the beer drinkers thought they would just have a taste but came back to finish it off. I doubled the recipe. This weekend I am incharge of the Julep's for a party and I plan on making 4 batches. Actually making it ahead of time is great. I take my ice crusher with me and have the bourbon in a large dispenser for easy mixing.
