Oh thank goodness! I have been looking for an authentic Ethiopian Fruit Salad all my life, and I finally found it! I am SO GLAD the brilliant chefs at Food Network have given me this intricate and complicated recipe that I *might* be able to do at home. The last direction of adding the banana at the last minute looks extremely difficult, though. Do you think I can pull it off?? I hope they keep up the great work and put out more recipes like this because I am also looking for recipes for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, soup from a can, and a peeled banana. Good job, guys!

ETA: I just looked at the recipe again, and I'm in a panic. The other fruit specifies that it is peeled, yet the banana does not say that! So do I leave the peel on and slice it??? I DON'T KNOW!!!!

If I have to leave out the grapes due to an allergy, can I still say this is an "Ethiopian Fruit Salad" to my brunch guests?

I was sure to highlight the important part about adding the bananas last when I printed this recipe earlier. A mistake like the addition of an integral ingredient too early can completely ruin a recipe. Thanks for stressing the order of importance, Food Network!

I tried to make this myself, but I must have added the banana too soon, because my salad up and killed seven of my guests. And I only had five guests!

What the hell? Being an Ethiopian myself, I find this extremely hilarious. And I'm pretty sure the Asian fruit salad is just a fruit salad too. Wow, you guys are morons.

I'm confused as to what constitutes the "last minute". There's 5 minutes of prep time and 5 minutes of cooking time here. Mind you, you're not actually COOKING, unless perhaps by "prepping" you mean the cutting-up of the fruit, and by "cooking" you mean the combining all the fruit into a bowl. So would it be that final minute of the 5 minutes of cooking/combining? What if you finish that arduous task in just 2 minutes? I'm not sure how putting fruit into a bowl can possibly take 5 minutes. My advice would be to cut up the fruit in the kitchen, but put the bowl itself where you're "cooking" the fruit in, say, the upstairs bathroom. This may help to keep the "cooking" time at the required 5 minutes, since you have to wait until THE LAST MINUTE to add that nefarious banana.

I highly recommend this dish as a complement to Fiber One Waffles and Dark Chocolate as a Snack.

For heaven's sake, don't you DARE add the banana before that very last minute! Make sure you have a timer handy or else the whole recipe will be ruined.

Seriously, Food Network, this recipe isn't even remotely Ethiopian. It's a plain old fruit salad. Doesn't make it bad, but it doesn't take a culinary genius to peel fruit and combine them in a bowl.

Please tell us you don't really pay people to come up with this stuff. Because, if that's the case, I have TONS of recipes I can sell you.

The only recipe listed as Ethiopian on the Food Network website has nothing to do with Ethiopian cuisine! How disappointing.
