Too much olive oil, too much cheese, too much leftover stuffing, and too salty. What is the definition of a "large button mushroom"?. I swear I found the largest button mushrooms and still had about have the stuffing left over in the end. I really believe that the measurements in this recipe need to be reevaluated.

I did try another stuffed mushroom recipe from www.foodnetwork.com and loved it! "Savory Herb-Stuffed Mushrooms". I made these for Thanksgiving and they were so delicious and an instant hit. Thanks Sandra Lee!

With just a few little changes, this recipe becomes a trip down memory lane, and a favorite that I serve to guests as well as to bring when visiting others.

I used one sweet Italian sausage with fennel in addition to the hot sausage, and cook them a little in a pan with no added fat so they release their oil and don't make the stuffing too greasy. Instead of garlic powder, I used two cloves of garlic, finely chopped. And I brushed the pan with a little olive oil before cooking the stuffed mushrooms, and didn't use any water (the mushrooms have plenty if they are fresh. This will stuff about 8-10 large mushrooms.

I will definitely use a lot less water in the pan next time. Regardless, my boyfriend and I found this recipe to be very good :o We did leave out the sausage (personal preference.
