This is the recipe I remember from my childhood. I've been looking for a Sloppy Joe this good all my life!

I've wanted this recipe for more than forty years.

We didn't have a school cafeteria at Crosby and bagged or went home for lunch.

About four times a year we had a Sloppy Joe Sale at Crosby to raise money for the school. We loved them. The smell emerging from the basement would have us all salivating. They were that good.

The Crosby Sloppy Joe Sale recipe of the fifties wasn't so sweet as this one.

This recipe is too sweet and was probably a recipe that changed over the years as the Sloppy Joes were always made by volunter mothers. Ingredients probably effect the taste as well.

Still, it beats anything I have ever had out of a can. I found this recipe here recently and tried it. As I said good, but too sweet.

I'm going to try it again with a generic catsup that I hope makes it less sweet.

This was pretty, a good kids pleaser. It is very sweet, I'll cut back on the ketchup and tomato paste next time.
