This stuffing was a huge hit yesterday. I used spicy chicken sausage instead of the pork sausage. I usually make a traditional stuffing, but I think this is the new favorite. Thank you Anne for the inspiration! :

I think the organic cider I used made the whole thing turn kind of a dirty grey color- really not appetizing. Plan to re-cycle tonight - if the results work I'll post

Not sure what people are talking about - Purple? Nothing started out purple, nothing finished up purple with our stuffing. 4 stars for being 'pretty good' as reported by family - not the best. Apples brought a little extra/too much sweetness over traditional stuffing fruits like cranberries. Only change was to add a 1/2 stick of butter. It's Thanksgiving after all.

It's three hours before Thanksgiving sit-down and we just pulled this purple gray glop from the oven. Disaster. The bread has turned to paste holding together all the apples and nuts and sausage. We've cooked Thanksgiving dinner for nearly 20 years now and this is the only flop we've ever had. We are experienced cooks and followed this recipe precisely. This was not user error. At least we have Alton Brown's turkey and some nice garlic-mashed potatoes.

I left out the cider and sausage, and added cranberries. I usually am not a fan of stuffing, but this one is great!! It was easy to make and my family loved it.

Yikes! Don't make this! I decided to not make the stuffing I have made for years and try something new. I am doing my cooking for Thanksgiving tomorrow and thank goodness I made this ahead of time. The bread IS purplish like others have said, it's soggy and way too sweet. Now I have to go back to the grocery store and start over. I can't see why this got 5 stars.

My new standard recipe for stuffing! Made it for the last two years and LOVED it! For bread I use cornbread and a little walnut bread. Yellow of the cornbread brightens up the dish and color is just fine. Skipped the cider and added a few sauteed mushrooms. Flavor is fantastic and the blend of textures from the nuts and apple is spectacular. Yum, yum. Can't wait until Thanksgiving!

I made this last year and it was wonderful....I used chicken & apple sausage in lieu of hot sausage. Am going to try it again this year, YMUM! Thanks Anne for a great recipe!!
