I must admit I'm disappointed to see this. What can and cannot be used with jello is pretty basic cooking information. Papaya, pineapple and kiwi all contain enzymes that break down the jello. That's why papain is used to tenderize meat! You can use canned pineapple because the stuff is pasteurized as part of the canning process which breaks down the papain enzyme. But fresh kiwi (or pineapple or papaya...... No. This is basic stuff.
It could be salvaged by putting the kiwi on top of the dish once everything is set up instead of floating it in the jello with the banana.
But like I said, this is basic stuff and it should have been obvious whenever the dish was made. Do you guys just make up these recipes as you go along? I feel sorry for anyone making this for family or guests thinking it is so simple that nothing could go wrong. It will and what you'll get is lime soupish gunk underneath a layer of "cheesecake" pudding. Lovely.

I had no problem getting the jello to set (yes, I made it with kiwi. For the individual that stated it was too strong--did you use the 4-serving size of jello? What did you folks put the jello in? To the one that said it smelled bad--what's with that?!?! I am not a "fan" of Sandra Lee. I just happened to watch this episode and thought this looked easy and good. It was easy and looked just like hers. My family thought it tasted good also--we just like chocolate better!!

My hubby saw this on tv and wanted me to make it. I told him I thought kiwis were on the "will not set up" list but he said she made it. I thought ok, it's less water, maybe that is why it worked. Nope, never set up, ever. What a waste of time and money.

Iread the comments about the jello not setting up, so I just made the jello the regular way it says on the box, and added the banans without the kiwi. Even my 10 year old son who is picky liked it alot.

I should have read the reviews first.Duh. The jello never did jell even though I tried overnight, so the next day I bought more jello and tried it without the kiwi. The jello is tooooo strong (1 cup of water??? and the pudding was only ok. I want to know how Sandra Lee set hers up in a cooler.
Someone needs to test this recipe before it is put on this website. What a waste of money that was.

How did the jello set up when Sandra Lee made it? I am very dis-illusioned as I thought these recipes were tested before they were put on the air???!!! I am a firm believer in taste and economics and not just the visionary effect.

Gelatin cannot set up with bromeliads (such as pineapple, kiwi, papaya, figs. This dessert was a disappointment.
