While the idea is great, the execution was not as simple as shown on the show. Two cakes mixes made about 1/4 inch high cakes, so I used 4 cake mixes and eight layers (three chocolate fudge to get the desired height. The recipe also talked about adding egg whites, but never said anything about separating the eggs, so I used the whole egg, as in the cake box directions. The final product was very cute, but we couldn't find any dry ice in our area. I stuck the sparkler candles in, but it just wasn't the same effect. Our 10 years old grandson still enjoyed the cake.

This recipe is so easy to make. Just follow directions. I made my own choc. butter cream frosting. I also cut a small juice can in half. I used sterno in the juice can to tuck into the volcano. Instead of "smoke" we had flames!

I did vary the ingredients to take out preservatives and artificial colors. Finding the dry ice was the hardest part. My husband thinks that a larger glass would be better for more smoke. Overall, it was fun and easy to do. Thanks Sandra Lee!

This cake was fun to make and the kids loved it! The crazy little five year olds crowded around and could not wait to get the first piece. It tasted very good and is a must do for little ones

This cake was easy, but not as easy as Sandra made it out to be. It had a good effect, but not worth the money and effort. The cake was way to sweet. Janice...5 stars just because it looks fun to do. Rate only if you make it. It gives a false review of a recipe.

This is something I know would be a winner!! My new daughter-in-law had a hawaiian theme bridal shower because she and my son were getting married in Hawaii. There was a volcano cheese dip on the table of other types of Hawaiian foods. The hostess put dry ice in the middle. I thought this was so cool!! But a cake!!! Wow!! I am definately going to do this one!!
