Loved it! We are not from the south so this combination was weird! Then we tried it at a really good resturant and loved it because we moved to Georgia. This recipe came out just as good. My only comment is that it takes longer to cook the grits than what is suggested here.

This recipe is definitely insanely delicious! Made it for the second time this weekend. Really got the rue right this time (Way to go Kali!. Suggest making it ligher - somehow! We didn't have any tomato paste -and the grits tasted fine with out it. Warms up real well in the microwave!

This dish is insanely, indescribably delicious. Do yourself a favor and prepare the dish exactly as published at least once. After that, you can play around and make it your own.
I make a 'lite' version by using slow-cooking, stone ground grits. The texture is not as fine and smooth but the slow cooking time and extra cooking broth make a super creamy dish without any cream needed. I also replace the heavy cream in the sauce with a lite goat cheese spread and extra broth.

This recipe was rich and full of wonderful flavor. The cheddar grits recipe is perfect exactly as it is. As a whole this meal is heavy in calories so don't make this if you are looking for something light!

Absolutely delicious! After having cajun shrimp and grits in Savannah, I came home to try and replicate this yummy dish. This recipe is even better than I had hoped and is now a go-to staple at my house. I sometimes substitute andouille for the country ham, but otherwise I make no changes to the recipe. If you're looking for a fabulous shrimp and grits recipe, look no further -- this is it!

It takes some practice with the roux, I don't wait 15 minutes. Also, cut the cheese in half and as a finish chop fresh onion tops for color. Great recipe and I was born a Northerner!

Delicious! Great flavor. A definate do-over. Not the prettiest dish but makes up for it tenfold in flavor.
