I made those cookies for my girlfriends and they loved it! I expected them to be more like the Havana style from Argentina but they are still delicious. The original alfajor does have cinnamon and the spices but i chose not to add them since the sandwiches are cookie like rather than cake like. They are very flaky, lightly sweet and go great w/ just the dulce de leche! It was a hit!

I made these yesterday for a friend of mines better half who's Cuban. He grew up on Dulce! He eats it straight from the can! He LOVED the cookies!!! They were a huge hit! Unfortunately I couldn't find a can of Dulce in my town so his mom told me to boil a can of sweetened condensed milk for 1 1/2 hours - you just immerse the can and boil- and guess what! It turns into Dulce de Leche!

i had this cookie years ago in peru and i was so excited to make them. unfortunately they came out very greasy and brittle. they broke apart when i picked them up and the texture was sandy.I thought it was going to be more of a short bread consistency.

She says dulce de leche is "Really Caramel," She's not even from Argentina, what does she know? These are the dictionary definitions for Caramel, and Dulce de Leche: CARAMEL, is a mixture produced when sugar has been cooked until it melts to become a thick clear liquid ranging in color from gold to brown. DULCE DE LECHE, is a milk-based syrup, prepared by slowly heating sweetened milk.

I messed up and put the spices in the dough. They turned out real good. Dulce de leche with all those spices would ruin it in my opinion.

This recipe calls for way too much butter. The cookies came out very greasy. I love dulce de leche but adding the nutmeg, cinn and cloves were a bit too much.
I grew up eating these cookies, and I don't remember them tasting like this :(
Next time I will cut the butter in half and leave out the spices.
