I searched everywhere for the dragees and then decided to look on-line and this is what one company had on their site "Add an elegant accent to cake designs, sugar flowers, or cookies with these gorgeous, shiny, metallic-colored balls. As fabulous as these decorations are, please note that silver and gold dragees are to be used as "decoration only" per the FDA because they contain trace amounts of metal (ie: silver. Although people do consume dragees in most parts of the world, some culinary professionals are recommending they be removed before eating any confectionary treat garnished with them. Federal and state authorities list silver as toxic at certain levels. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has declared dragees as non-edible and requires jars to carry labels saying they're "for decoration only." We choose not to ship these items to California because of recent lawsuits in that state.

Paula you've done it again! these are the best roll out cookies ive ever made; easy too! i didnt have merenge powder for the frosting. i just decorated with sprinkles and sugars. they raised well and all came out great. i used altons tip... use powdered sugar instead of flour to powder up the counter & the cookie cutters. baked them about 12 minutes in my oven. perfect! I just had my foods class of 18 make these cookies and they turned out good. My students loved making them. They were anxious to get cooking so they didn't even let them chill in the fridge. They rolled out the dough and started baking. It took awhile to do but the end result was good. We didn't have enough star cookie cutters to go around so they made every shape of cookie that we had in cookie cutters. We just decorated them with powdered sugar and milk icing and they had fun. They smell really good baking and look nice also. This recipe is great I will keep this for my future foods classes to use as well. we are always baking something when time allows.

If you get pressed for time, go to Target during the holidays and buy the $6 box of Krusteaz sugar cookie mix. Look on the side of the box and they give you the recipe to turn the sugar cookies into gingerbread which is delicious!! And the sugar cookies are great too. Also, you only add water to the mix and the box contains cookie cutters and frosting and colored sugar!

This is basically the same cookie recipie my mom used when I was growing up... no one could ever figure out that it was the almond extract that made them so much better than everyone else's. This recipie brings back memories of rolling out what seemed like miles of dough on the kitchen counter and cutting out snowmen and trees, angels and stockings to decorate and package for friends and family. Thank you!

The best way I've seen to use simple sugar cookies and make them the hit of the party. Just did a batch and can't wait till they cool. We've colored some of ours and they look fabulous.
