I started out by letting a chopped onion and minced garlic sweat in some olive oil and butter for 4-5 mins. Then I added the flour and milk (used low fat, and added half of the shredded cheese to the hot milk mixture. After that combined and fully melted, I added the remaining ingredients (spices, sour cream, etc to the mixture and blended and poured that over the macaroni and cubed cheese. Then I topped with the remaining shredded cheese and added milk to the pan to get it "full" to just below the top of the macaroni. It was amazing!! I doubled the recipe and 4 of us finished it, it was that good.

I made this for Thanksgiving with some additions and some omissions. I did used the Whole box of the macaroni. I used 3 types of cheeses: Extra sharp Cheddar, Colby Monterey Jack, and Mozzarella. The recipe did not call for butter (except to use for croutons, but, i added a stick of butter and also buttered the pan, i also used 2 eggs. I omitted the heavy cream and used a whole can of Evaporated Milk along with the half n half, and i also omitted the flour. I'm a 58 year old male, and i remember when i was a child and i use to watch my mother make Mac n Cheese, she use to prepare it in "Layers", but the one thing that caught my eyes is that she added pieces of "Whole Tomatoes" in it, so i used a small can of drained "Petite Tomatoes to it. For my topping, i combine bread crumbs, Parmesan Cheese, and oil in a bowl and sprinkle it over the top of the casserole dish. This is a keeper. Thank you again Sunny for sharing your ingredients.

I had to make the mac & cheese this year for thanksgiving that my aunt has made for years. She made the traditional noodles, sharp cheddar, bread crumb topping. I knew i couldn't compete with her so I made this one with one exception, I used the Neeley's topping of crushed potato chips & cooked bacon instead of the croutons. Well, unless everyone was being nice since they put this on me, everyone loved it, even my husband who is not a mac & cheese fan, really enjoyed it. My mom even asked for the recipe, but i guess she has to! 8 . It was very good & very different, even the kiddies loved it, i didn't change the spices at all, only the topping. If your a mac & cheese freak like me, this is an awesome one! Thanx Sunny!

I'm not a frequent cook but I do love mac and cheese, so I tried this on a Saturday after seeing Sunny's show and I loved it. I forgot the flour, and didn't have any eggs so I used mayonnaise, and it turned out great anyway...I highly recommend it for a rainy day when you need some hot comfort food. But not all the time, unless you're a marathon runner!

well my husband and i both love mac and cheese and pepper jack so when i found this recipe it sounded awesome. we both carefully followed the instructions to a tee almost we only added a lil more pepper jack instead of so much cheddar, (for that extra kick anyways the mac and cheese wasnt creamy enough and i though it was lacking something

    signed concerned cook
    with regret ...

I Love this recipe. I have made it three different times and every time was just as good as the last. I made it for my dad who doesn't like Mac and Cheese and he had two big plates full and then I saw him sneak another spoonful before he put his dish in the sink.
If you are looking for a comfort food after a busy week try this recipe. YUM!

Especially loved the homemade croutons - they really made it special. Creamy, cheesy, spicy - OH Yeah!
    Will definately make it again.

I found the base mixture to be delicious, but the grated cheese on top became very firm and chewy during baking. I will try it again, next time leaving off the grated cheese topping and just adding the croutons near the end.

I am a teribble cook and was trepidacious to make the recipe.. even htough it says easy. It was AMAZING! I thought it was going to be runny but it came out just smooth enough. I did leave back some of the cream mixture. If not serving right away I would leave off the breadcrumbs.

Also if using naother pasta I used :spolli.. longlot more than coils..then use alot more than 2 cups..

Im in love and definately going to make it again!

This is a great Mac n Cheese recipe. I love the kick from the Pepper Jack and Cayenne. If you are a little wary about the spiciness, I'd cut back to 1/4 tsp. cayenne. I only made a few modifications-- I used light sour cream, used 2 cups of half and half instead of the cream, and used 2 tsp dijon mustard in place of the dry b/c I didn't have it. If you want the mac and cheese to set a little more, you can add a little less of the liquid mixture (maybe 1 1/2 cups of it. Also, I cut back on the cheese b/c a whole pound of cheddar sounded way too heavy. I used 8 oz. pepper jack, and a total of 8-10 oz cheddar (split between the shredded topping and cubed that was mixed in with the pasta. Definitely try this recipe, and don't forget the croutons!!! Be sure to make your own because it makes all the difference. The end result is delicious, very rich, and will likely have you coming back for seconds.
