I followed the recipe as written, did not mix up the baking powder and baking soda. I served it when the cake was still warm, and although it was good, it had this weird aftertaste, almost bitter. Not sure why?? After putting it in the fridge and eating the next day, it tasted much better. It is a very moist, sweet cake. Not sure if I would make it again.

Ina included this recipe in her new book, "Foolproof," but added the extra kick of Bourbon to the glaze. I made it for a date last night, and he and I both went for seconds. What an outstanding, and truly "foolproof" recipe. If you don't already own the book, BUY IT! Like all of Ina's cookbooks, the photographs are beautiful, and the instructions are simple. Ive made several recipes from the book, and all were outstanding (I especially recommend the raspberry crumble bars - they are out of this world.

Hands down the best dessert I have ever brought out for my family. I was shocked (dates? yuck!
The recipe was unusually easy. I halved everything as I didn't want two cakes. Remember, this isn't like a "normal" layer cake, covered and soaked in toffee, it's wonderfully rich. To have two would be way to much. The batter was really runny, just go with it and you'll be fine.
I have a true to size nine inch cake pan. I had no batter left over, no overflow. My cake was perfect. I took it out of the oven in 35 minutes. I used a chop stick to poke it all over, then poured all of my toffee over the cake. Let it sit for ten minutes, then flipped it over and it slid right out. I served mine the next day, putting each serving in the microwave to heat everyone's slice up. They had an option of whipped cream and/or vanilla ice cream. And as far as not liking dates, they (skins and all completely dissolve. I would have no idea had I not made this cake that dates were involved at all.

This cake was- hands down- the best cake I have made! All the girls at my holiday party kept saying how amazing it was! If you want to knock some socks off - This cake will do it!! I halved the recipe (for the cake, not the sauce and it was plenty for 12 of us with extra left to take home. Make sure you follow the recipe EXACTLY, I know a lot of people have been questioning the baking soda/powder amounts.... they are definitely correct. I also realized after pouring the sauce on the cake and flipping it, some sauce didn't soak to the bottom of the cake, so I used some of the remaining sauce to pour over it, then used the rest of the sauce to pour over each individual slice with vanilla bean ice cream!! Delicious! Please give it a try:

Simply Fabulous!! ... I have wanted to try the recipe since seeing it on Barefoot Contessa... so I made this for Christmas Eve dinner... Big Hit!
    Instead of 2 -9" pans I used a 9', a 6" and a 4" pan...for a tiered cake....
I made extra sauce because it is absolute heaven and everyone wanted to add a bit more of the warmed sauce to their cake.... Definately a keeper! Can not wait to make it for a couple we traveled England with where we first discovered Sticky Toffee Pudding!!

Holy Moly, I made this at Easter this year and everyone did nothing but rave about it the whole day, seriously raving! I didn't even get a slice because once word got out on how tasty this was it was gone in a heartbeat. I'll definitely be making this again!!

It's similar to my mother's "sticky buns", which are much loved by the family. How can you go wrong with drowning a cake in sticky bun glaze? YUM!

The BEST cake I have ever made!! Everyone loved it. I am glad I watched the video a 2nd time as I was concerned about how runny the date mixture was (be careful pouring it into the batter, even knowing it was suppose to be runny I still had to force myself to just "go with it". I too didn't mix the Baking Powder in enough, next time I will make sure I do. No problem with cake overflow. I whipped up the remaining cream and put on top of each piece. My 94 year old mother asked for a 2nd piece!! OMG DELICIOUS.
