This was really good and Im not overly partial to strawberry ice cream. I made some for my neighbors too.

The best ice cream I have ever had! It is so tasty and creamy. It is even better than store bought ice cream!

This is my new go-to ice cream recipe! I have made it all, custards, gelato, sorbets but this has everything in one easy package! Super creamy and fruity but super simple and I love that you don't have to worry about eggs, etc. The strawberry was great and I love the bits of fruit. I didn't have Big Red but regular cream soda worked great, if you wanted a more pink hue you could always add a drop of red food coloring. I just made a peach version with mashed peaches and orange cream soda and it's great! Super versatile, super tasty, super easy. Winner winner! :

Incredible! The most difficult portion of the recipe was waiting for it to finish!! Not too sweet, great consistency. Definitely something we're going to make again! My husband has been a lover of Big Red for a long time, but for those who cannot find Big Red, or just want it for the recipe, you can find smaller bottles of different brand of Red Soda very inexpensively!

Surprised and happy from the outcome of this ice cream....I'm no longer afraid of wasting ingredients regarding "Philadelphia style" ice creams, as they definitely now have a place in our home. I never knew they could be creamy and pleasing, texture wise.

Versus a custard based ice cream, this maybe froze a little firmer, but a gentle tempering at room temp for a few minutes, yielded ice cream that was easy to scoop, and quite delicious. Impressed that the relatively small amount of strawberries still yielded a wonderful flavor....even managed to get the "Big Red" soda. From the same magazine article, I've noted a "Milky Way" ice cream....same concept, using sweetened condensed milk and no eggs....going to give it a try next week.
    Cheers,
    Jeff

This ice cream was delish! Followed recipe exactly, and the result was creamy, not overly sweet, and refreshing. Thanks for sharing it!
