We invited 2 other couples over for cocktails and dinner. At first they seemed kind of skeptical. The meal was easy to prepare, quit fancy & delicious, definetly something we will make again!

To kick up the pastry a bit try sprinkling fresh herbs like parsley, dill, oregano or thyme over the mustard w/just a touch of sea salt. Even store bought or homemade pesto would be great spread over the pastry before folding - not as traditional, but oh my, very good. Experiment with different mustards too - I'm going to try this with chipotle mustard next time. The mushroom sauce was good as is, but you can add 1/4 cup of white wine or brandy to the mushrooms to deglaze the pan before adding the cream for an even richer flavor. This would work well with boneless chicken breasts or pork tenderloin. A very regal dish - dust with fresh herbs before serving for an elegant presentation.

I would like to rate this recipe in 2 parts: for the beef & puff pastry I give 3 stars, but for the mushroom sauce 5 stars! The beef and puff pastry aren't that impressive, decent yes, but not amazing. The mushroom sauce however is absolutely wonderful! So creamy and earthy and all around delicious. I make the sauce often but have never made the beef and pastry again... I prefer to cook some chicken breasts and ladle the sauce over them, yummy!

Absolutely wonderful!! DH would have me making this once a week if I let him. Only for special occasions due to the calorie count. So simple too. Thanks Sunny
