I made this for my in-laws while they were visiting. We all absolutely loved it. The baby bellas added an additional layer of flavor that was so awesome. Never again will I add can soup to broccoli casserole, not while this recipe is soooo much better and just as easy to make. Thanks Sunny!!!

Followed the recipe exactly. I found the onions and garlic had a raw taste even after baking; next time I will saute before adding to the mix. Also, this was mostly rice, so if I make this dish again, I'll add broccoli florettes, more cheese. Not a hit with the family.

Very good, I used brown rice instead of white. The cayenne gave it a good amount of heat, so if you don't like spicy maybe cut back on it. I also used plain old white caps, because that's all I had. Still good though!

Love it. To make it a one-dish meal, I added 2 cups of cooked chicken (poached in stock and cubed at 1/2 inch and deleted the mushrooms. I also used half-and-half instead of cream -- the casserole was still rich and creamy. It needed more liquid because of the chicken addition, so I added a half cup each extra half-and-half and stock.
Next time I'll sautee the onions in the butter before adding the flour for the roux. I found the onions to be undercooked.

GREAT recipe, but you MUST, MUST, MUST season this dish so that it won't be so bland.

Absolutely the best broccoli casserole I've ever made! I used brown rice and it tasted great. 1/4 tsp of red pepper is plenty. I'm gonna make it with chicken and broccoli sometime.

I left out the cayenne and added a little bit more cheese. Very good! I especially loved the mushrooms!

I think the 5 stars is a huge let down. The dish was ok for small children but it was really very, very bland. I made it last night to test it out for Thanksgiving and I will never make it again.

Loved it and very easy! Added a little more cheese and didn't have cayenne so I used chili powder but half the amount. Will make again.

I lightened up the recipe with 2% milk and EVOO. I used brown rice and fresh broccoli (lightly steamed. This is a very good basic recipe because the proportions are spot on. Then, like many of the reviewers, you can try your own variations.
