I watched Sunny make this on TV and it looked easy and good. Followed the recipe exactly. First, it takes a lot more than 20 minutes to make the peas edible. Also, the finished product has an overwhelming taste of cumin and not much else. I was disappointed in the result.

Great starting point, but rather bland. I added more cumin, some curry and more salt and pepper. Slab bacon, or a ham bone, is crucial. Pureed the whole batch right in the pot. Love my immersion blender!

This is a great recipe. The bacon actually adds more flavor to the soup than cubed ham. Not being too crazy about cumin, I substituted dried oregano leaves. After adding the puree back into the pot, I put in 1/8 tsp sugar, 1/4 tsp white wine vinegar and 4 drops Tobasco. These few ingredients perked up the taste perfectly.

We recently had a cold, wet windy spell in the San Francisco Bay Area when I saw Sunny make this recipe. It looked perfect - and it was! Even better on day 2. When I reheated I added a little bit of plain Greek yogurt and it added a nice alternative taste too. Keep cooking Sunny - love your show! Charlotte-Ann

My partner and I both lost our jobs this year and we both also lost all of our parents last year, one after the other. And so, now we have to learn how to cook. My Mom once bought me one of those Immersion Blender things and it sat in the cupboard for the last 15 years. My "Mother-in-law," a Mexican woman, used to visit us and make Chili Colorado and I guess that's why we have a ton of "Cumino" (ground cumin, which I never knew what else to do with. Well, now I know what to do with all of the above! Sunny's Easy Peasy Split Pea Soup recipe is fantabulous and makes good use out of both items. It was truly amazing. I headed to the previous poster's suggestion and added croutons. The cumin and fresh tomato were brilliant additions, too. Thank you, Sunny!

I love making split pea soup. I've never used cumin in it before and this was just wonderful! I would recommend this recipe but would also advise serving with home made croutons which take it to a whole new level!
