Very surprised at all the good ratings for this recipe. My family found it to be very greasy to the point that it caused GI distress for several days after eating! I tried the recipe again using lean ground beef and it was much better. You people must be used to eating fatty food!

Made this chili last night for a superbowl party and everyone loved it. One guess told me it was the best chili they ever had.

I also made the chips that went with the recipe. Love them! It was so easy and a great complement to the meal. It's great with salsa too.

    A few notes:

I used spicy italian turkey sausage instead of the Mexican sausage, it worked great. I noticed a few comments mentioned that their spices sticked to the bottom of the pot. So I cooked the onions, pepers, and spices on low-medium heat instead of medium, and I stired constantly so it wouldn't stick.

I will definately make this recipe again.

    Thanks Sunny,

    I love your show!

My husband and I loved this recipe so much that we are making it again tonight! Couldn't find the gravy master so we mixed up 1/2 cup of brown gravy. Also couldn't find chorizio so we used hot Italian sausage. Even with the substitutions, this recipe rocks! I can't wait to try your meatloaf stuffed peppers! Thanks Sunny!

    Hey Sunny!

This show was awesome and so was the CHILI!

I really like chili on the spicier side - if you do not, just cut back a bit on your spices.

I grew up in the Detroit area - thought your story of your former friend was so funny!!! I let you know you could
have NATIONAL CONEY CHILI shipped to you (in fact, an entire "CONEY KIT"

    KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

PS -Hey Ron in LA, CA - get a life. Are you an EX-boyfriend? Maybe you need to meditate. . . . .

I enjoyed this chili and so did a bunch of my friends. Several of them asked me for the recipe. The heat level was a bit too strong for my taste ( I would rate it a 3.5 or 4 out of 5, so I ended up adding black beans the next day to even it out. This made it mellower but still very tasty. I also got a bit of the spices and vegetables stuck on the bottom of the pan, so I would suggest watching that closely and maybe using some of the beef broth at that point.

I made this chili for my boyfriend and I last night and it was DELISH!!! I made it with the suggested tortillas and we also tried it out on hotdogs.. everything was REALLY GOOD! Next time I will add the spices in after I brown the meat as the spices were sticking to the bottom on the pan.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but there is no need to make nasty comments about the host.

I remember Sunny when she was a radio dj on NY's Hot 97 and she was pleasure to listen to than and now she's a pleasure to watch on the Food Network. Keep up the good work!!

Ron The Jerk From Cal. First off your supposed to review the recipe not the show or person. For you to be so cruel and make those statements, you have to be the biggest jerk I ever seen in my Life. If you don't like the show or her then just don't watch it you JERK.

Now thanks to everyone else for your reviews, I will be doing this recipe this week and can't wait to try it.

    Hi, all,

I saw the show yesterday -- since I was invited out for dinner last night, I was impelled to cook this recipe today, the next chance available. Even though I had to substitute a number of ingredients (like sweet Italian sausage for the chorizo!, this did not make any real difference in my enjoyment and in the ease of cooking. Maybe Ron, the first poster, wouldn't approve, but then I was cooking for me, and not for him.

HOWEVER, if you don't have the onions and peppers and garlic well spread out across the bottom of the pot, you may find that a fair amount of the 3 tablespoons of cumin, 2 of oregano, 1 each of chili powder and of cinnamon, and 2 teaspoons of cayenne are going to stick to the bottom. (What I did, when I saw this starting to happen, was to start adding some of the meat and also some beef broth, which made it possible to stir the spices.

Like Angela's husband, below, I was startled at the Gravymaster, but like him and Angela, I liked the way it came out. As a side note, I used thawed frozen pepper strips instead of fresh -- for some reason, frozen is a lot cheaper.

Wow, what a tasty chili. I made the chips as well. Great idea. Don't substitute a spoon for them....The cinnamon was a nice touch and just the right amount of heat. Thanks for not disappointing me. I had to make it right after the show because it looked so good. Like your show and watch it a lot.

There are a lot of chili recipes out there that my husband and I have tried. The biggest reason we have tried a lot of them is because my recipe (that I still love has beans in it, and my husband does not like them. We just never found one we both adored. Also we are always looking to expand our horizons, or add a new twist to spice things up when it has to with the palette. This morning we were watching the show and this recipe caught his eye, though he was skeptical about the Gravy Master addition. Regardless we went out grabbed some fresh chorizo and looked for the only thing not part of our normal inventory of items; Gravy Master. My husband is a bit of a snob when it comes to his ingredients. But after he read the label he said no big deal. Just a browning sauce with normal flavor?s you would probably use in a chili anyhow. (More or less if you think about the concentration.

The result was much unexpected. We loved it. The heat is not overpowering, the blend of spices are well rounded, it?s aromatic, the flavors pop, and the best part was my husband did not complain about the cinnamon. I believe we finally have found a recipe that more than satisfies us. We did modify it slightly by adding in more meat than the recipe called for. My husband leans more toward carnivore than omnivore. This meant adding a bit more beef broth, a bit more chili pepper, and we doubled the tomato paste because we do like a little more of the tomato flavor.

Either way this recipe (with modifications goes down into our book of favorites. Thank you very much.
