I made this for Thanksgiving dessert to bring over to the house I was invited to and I was given so much praise!! People who didn't even like pecan couldn't stop taking more of the little mini pies. Comments like "little bites of heaven" were very common!! They were simple and quick to make and will be making them come Christmas time too!!

12/8: The first batch I made of these came out kind of dry because I used extra flour while shaping the dough since it was too sticky. The second batch came out much better because I sprinkled a small amount of sugar and cinnamon on the dough once it was pressed into each muffin cup. I also didn't use a full tablespoon of the pumpkin mixture for each muffin cup and I cooked everything at once in the oven. The second time around it came out much better and I did use regular pumpkin filling. Next time I will use pumpkin pie filling and see what that tastes like! Also, it does take a while for these to cool before you should attempt to take them out of the tins. I let mine cool an hour and then carefully cut around the edges and they came out perfectly. Update as of 12/22: I made this again last night with Pumpkin Pie Filling and they were great. You definitely have to be more of a pecan pie fan though to really appreciate these!

This was the worse recipe I've ever made. All the pies stuck to the tins. This was an expensive mistake. Pecans are very expensive in Tx right now.

I subsituted the pumpkin for sweet potato because I don't like pumpkin. The added pecan on top was just delicious. A really cute way to make mini sweet potato pies.

My 11 year old son made these in a cooking class, and wow were they amazing. He was so excited that I had to come home and download the recipe so he and I could make them for our family Thanksgiving feast. Thank you Sunny for the recipe. YUM YUM YUM

Fantastic recipe. I made it for last Thanksgiving and heard about how great it was all year! I don't know why others are having such a problem with this recipe. The little pies are irresistible........can't stop munching on them!!!!!!!!

I have had the worst experience with the foodnetwork.com this season. So far 2/2 recipes that I picked from the site have came out terribly. I do not suggest this pumpkin pie recipe the texture is terrible, and the cakes do not come out normally. I had assumed they would be similar to mini pecan pies sadly, that is not the case they are more like pecan pumpkin nasties.

For those that are pumpkin ignorant like me - here's a tip. Pure pumpkin is the same as pumpkin puree. I didn't think about it when I bought the pure pumpkin. After baking with it, and getting slightly bland results, I realize that it doesn't have the seasoning the puree has (now evident by looking at the lack of ingredients in the pure pumpkin. Use the pie filling or add seasoning to the pure pumpkin. I give it 4 stars because I made the mistake.
