    I had a big hit with this recipe! Easy to prepare. I didn't have chorizo on hand, so I substituted Italian sausage out of the casing. Excellent!! thanks Sunny!

    I love Sunny's down to earth and fun approach to cooking and her recipes are always great. But this recipe seems different than what she demonstrated on the show. I did not remember her pouring the water used to soak the mussels into the cooking pot. I remember her pouring a whole bottle of white wine into the pot. That is how I made this recipe. I did not use the water from soaking the mussels, but rather scooped out the mussels from that pot and put them into the cooking pot, then added more white wine to the pot and simmered the mussels. The flavor from the onion-garlic, etc. mixture (I also added some chopped tomatoes plus the wine was wonderful!

    If you want to use plain water instead of the mussel water go ahead; it's good to dilute the wine a bit with fresh water--but by NO means use chicken broth as a substitute--NO Matter WHAT. If you add chicken broth you introduce possible salmonella to a healthy seafood dish--and would RUIN the flavors involved in the dish.
    So if you've decided not to use the mussel water as instructed, then just use fresh water instead! Otherwise follow the recipe as written--.

    --OH--to the one who doesn't like chorizo cause of all the grease and fat--I tried it with SOYRIZO (veggie chorizo and it was perfect!!! All the flavor without the fat! Very good.

    I have seen this episode a couple of times now and I am not a Chorizo fan (too greasy by far. But for flavor it works as Sunny says. Great, simple recipe that anyone can do and with her sop-tastic garlic bread your better half will love it, lol.

    That being said, it's enjoyable to watch this show because Sunny is down to earth and it's like being with a friend you've known forever and making something new. Keep up the good work Sunny!!

    Do NOT use the mussel water! This has got to be a mistake. I also used 1/2 wine/1/2 chicken broth as I felt the wine was too strong by itself, even after simmering for 10 minutes (IMHO. The chorizo has a great taste. I also added chopped tomatoes when cooking the onions and a squeeze of lemon as the reviewer below did. Lastly, I put the chorizo back in the pot with all the other ingredients to simmer before adding the mussels. It tasted great....but LEAVE OUT THE WATER!

    Sunny,
    I wish I had of seen this recipe sooner.
    I made a few changes based on what I've done before with mussels.
    In 4 lbs of mussels ;
    1- I did not use the mussel water
    2- used 1/4 bottle of white dry white wine
    3- 3 scallions diced
    4- 1 tomato diced
    5- 1/2 lemon zested and juice

    Outstanding recipe, I will definately make it again!!

    I found the recipe great! I never cooked mussels before and Sunny's instructions made me feel I could do it. I dont' eat pork and had to substitute one or two ingrediants. So I'm sure it would have come out better, but it was my first time and I was pleased. Boy was she right about the amount of work to clean those suckers! It is easier to eat out! But now I have the option. Thanks Sunny

    This recipe looked so good when she made it on TV I decided to try it. It was good but I don't think you should add the water from the mussels and the taste was missing something. It need a little something more.. Also it needs a little cream or something to thicken up the broth. And i think i will add some red pepper flakes and tomatoes next time.
