This was the easiest recipe. I had most of the ingredients already, but for those that I didn't have, I made comparable substitutions. I used Kroger brand Steak marinade and a couple beef bouillion cubes instead of the Gravy Master. I'd made oxtails before, but with the traditional brown gravy or sauce. We were all eagerly awaiting dinner the next night. I let mine marinade overnight and my husband said he could tell they were going to be good after I had put everything in the pot. All you could hear at dinner was mmmm......this is so good.....and finger smacking! My husband said it his new favorite dish!! My son was praying we had leftovers. We did and he finished them off!
Can't wait to share with the rest of the family.
Thanks Sunny. We love the show!!!

I cut half of the spice as my husband and daughter cannot handle too spicy but the come out very good. I used 1 1/2 tsp dried thyme, 1 tbsp pepper flakes, 1 tsp hot paprika and 3 tsp sweet paprika but kept the hot sauce amount. I only added H2O to cover the oxtails in the beginning and didn't need to add any more liquid. At the last one and half hours, I needed to stir often as the starch suck at the bottom. I served with Basmati rice. It was a yummy dinner. Everyone love it.

Oh, I made some changes too that I browned 6 slices of bacon (non-smoked one, discard the oil, brown 1 chopped onion, added 1 cup of red wine until evaporate, add oxtails and the other marinated onion. Then add H2O.

I loved this recipe, it was so easy to make. However, I added potatoes and peas to it but that's just personal preference. I made this for my bf who loves oxtail but can never find it on the menu at the restaurants near us. I definitely recommend it.

Thanks Sunny my family loved this for xmas. Not only were they a big hit but I was in the right place at the right time when I purchased my xmas dinner. I went to the Whole Foods grocery store and this lady asked me how was my xmas going. I said Ahhh it's ok but you know sometimes you spend more than what you really want to. After I said that she paid for everything! I thought that it was a joke. I asked her where was the cameras. I guess there really is a Santa Claus:

I followed the entire recipe and was able to get my boyfriend who never eats oxtails to not only eat them but love them, the gravy and sauce was so good he didn't even realize he was eating oxtails until halfway though the meal when he asked what type of meat is this, that's when I broke the news and his response was "I don't eat oxtails", I just laughed. My son loved the meal too, I've made it 3 time since watching the show in October 2008. Great job!!

delicious! this recipe causes beef lovers to be faked out. for some reason, when people hear "OX" they recoil. OX? they say. yeah, oxtail. so meaty and so ham-hocky but not pork at all. the beans and the gravy over rice just cinch the dish. great comfort food that is spicy and has hints of jamaica. the thyme and gravy master with the hot pepper flakes border on the "jerk" side when you slop up that rice. great recipe. i can serve this to anybody and they would be hooked and fooled!

Thanks for the excellent recipe, Sunny. I didn't follow it completely, but the results were still outstanding. I didn't have all of the ingredients on hand the night before I wanted to cook them, so I sprinkled the oxtails with an "oxtail spice mix" I have in my cabinet and let them marinate overnight. The next day I followed the recipe pretty closely. I couldn't find the Gravy Master, but I used some other kind of gravy "starter" I found in the condiments aisle. Hey, it looked like the stuff you poured in the oxtails on TV! I didn't have fresh thyme so I sprinkled in some dried. And I *hate* those big white butter beans (limas that you used, so I substituted frozen baby green limas instead during the last hour of cooking. It turned out sooooo good! I served it over some yellow rice I'd cooked the night before along with some collards, too. Tonight we're having the leftovers with white rice. I don't think I've ever used thyme in my oxtails before, nor have I put any limas in mine. But this was the joint! Thanks so much. This one is definitely a keeper!
