These reviews gave me a little anxiety about trying this recipe until I realized the majority of the people did not even make it.

I actually made it and it was wonderful. The meat just fell apart it was so tender and tasty. Everytime I walked past it I pulled a piece off while I was waiting for our side dishes to cook. We have two Boxers and they stood below the stove drooling because the smell was incredible. They enjoyed a bite too. My husband loved it so much he took some for lunch the next day for himself and a coworker.

Thanks Sunny for a great recipe. You always make it your own and that is what makes it so special.

I want to cook it but it concerns me that on the same page Hoffman and Anderson has the same recipies for pernil that require such different cooking instructions,
hoffman instructs cooking time is 5 hrs for a 16 lb. pernil.
Anderson instructs cooking time as 5 hrs for a 8-9 lb pernil.
They both can't be right! That's double the weight? for the sane cooking time.

WOW! a lot of angry bored housewives with nothing better to do than to bash someone elses success.
From my experience, I've always had a positive outcome from trying someone's take on a particular dish. I think it's aboslutely absurd (& lame that somebodie's husband "was offended" because she didn't pronounce something correctly or put her own spin on the recipie.... it's a cooking show, get a life people. I'm making this dish today, KEEP EM COMING SUNNY!!

We made the pork for a sunday dinner to treat our friends. The pork came out very tender and juicy, the skin was very crispy. The marinate gave the pork very good flavor. We put the pork to broil in the oven at the end for 5 min to crisp up the skin and everybody was fighting for the skin.
You should definitely give it a shot. We're even thinking about making this for our thanksgiving dinner instead of turkey.

I am Puerto Rican. I am a connoisseur when it comes to my PR pernil. What makes a person a great cook is when they can take a recipe and change it up and make it their own. My wife, mother and mother-in-law are all Puerto Rican and they all make their roast pork differently. My father in law however takes the crown (sorry honey. I can't believe the amount of haters their are. You guys are so busy worried about the terminologies and ingredients you didn't even give the recipe a chance. That is why she has a show and you are home reading the recipes on the internet. Try the recipe before you bash it. You are not going to intrigue me to look at your recipe when you are bashing someones else. I don't see you having your own cooking show. Sunny you can call it whatever you want, as long as it is good that is all that matters. Send some of the PR roast whatever this way.

Most of the comments about this recipe were unnecessarily mean spirited. Just like this country that everybody is so quick to flock to, today's cooking has a distinct diversity and is a fusion of many cultures. Just because her attempt at these recipes wasn't what some of you "purists" would have done, is no reason to string the girl up. Why don't some of you get a show on the network and show us poor slobs how it's done, if you hate it so much.
