I'm from the Caribbean so I make this all the time and plantain is one of my all time favourite foods.
Try it the Venezuelan way with some grated cheddar cheese, sprinkled over the warm plantains...wowza!

I PURCHASED A RIPE PLAINTAIN AND FOLLOWED THE RECIPE BUT THIS FRUIT WAS VOID OF ALL TASTE. I USED BROWN SUGAR, CINNAMON AND POWDER SUGAR TO HOPEFULLY ADD TASTE BUT IT WAS TERRIBLE! THIS HAS NO REFLECTION ON SUNNY'S COOKING ABILITY BUT MORE OF ONE"S PERSONAL PALATE.

I was introduced to plantains by my Salvadoran friend at a pupuseria. Since then, i've loved platains or platanos fritos in Spanish. This recipe is great because its not too oily and the plantains get crisp and good. I eat mine with sour cream. Make sure that you let your plantains get ripe (black/brown spots on the skin because its sweeter.

these are a staple in my home. we eat them with white rice and beans and usually flank steak, stewed chicken or fried chicken. we like the sweetness of this side dish paired with savory main dishes, it's a latin thing. some of my friends don't like this dish though, guess it's a taste preference. what you do have to watch for when selecting yellow or ripe plantains is to not pick any that are too black (too ripe. they come out too mooshy. fyi - hispanic name for this is maduros.

I had never eaten plantains before... so this was an easy to prepare introduction to plantains. Thanks to Sunny's advice I did use the black and yellow plantains...they were good!
