I grew up in north Florida eating boiled peanuts at many road side stands. I had never heard of using roasted peanuts for them so I decided to give it a try. But it just wasn't anything like what boiled peanuts should taste like. Do it with raw or dried but NOT roasted and you will be pleasantly surprised. Make sure to boil them for a lot longer also.

@Lakeesha...Didn't have to try the recipe as I have learned from past experiences. Don't be so quick to make assumptions. Trust me, I don't comment unless it is very good or off the mark-and this is a miss!

I am not originally from the south but have lived here for 3 years now. I also have eaten the raw or the green ones, roasted is not the way to go, sorry! You will surely need to cook them waaayy longer than 2 1/2 hours. I let them sit over night and the were still semi-hard, just not for me.

We thought these were very good. I've made boiled peanuts with raw peanuts, but they are difficult too find. Instead of salt, I used about 1/4 c. of crab boil and about 1/8 c. Cholula hot sauce. Boiled them for 2 1/2 hours and let them sit in the fridge over nite. Heated them up slightly to take the chill of and they are right tasty. Brings back memories of the Florida panhandle. Thanks.

Sorry to say..this was awful. A waste of a whole bag of peanuts and the salt and spice. The peanuts never absorbed the spices and the nuts inside the shell just got mushed. I even let soak overnight in hope that would improve the mess that I had. Had to throw the whole thing out. Other posters say you need raw, green peanuts. Wish I knew that before I started.

Going to give this recipe a try. Like several other reviewers, I too use raw/green peanuts. Soak them over night in salted water for best results. I'm not from the South, but this is how I learned while living in Florida.

Made these last night and they were NOT good...borderline "gross," not to mention the fairly nauseating smell for 2 hours while the peanuts boiled. Seriously. We love peanuts and spicy things, and I followed the recipe exactly, but ended up throwing the whole pot out. Maybe it's b/c I'm not from the South; or maybe you're supposed use fresh/green peanuts as someone suggested--my thought also, even though I'm just a "Northerner." Wish I had read the reviews before I made this recipe.

I LOVE your show, Sunny, but this is NOT the way we make boiled peanuts in South Carolina! They have to be 'fresh' green peanuts!

DITTO and DITTO to the previous reviewers. Roasted peanuts?? Don't waste your money making these unless you can find GREEN peanuts. Very disappointing coming from a girl claiming to be from the South.
