This was an ok dish. Aside from the prep time, it would make a pretty decent weekday meal. I just don't get that excited about chicken and rice dishes. When I saw the show, I thought maybe this was an exception. It wasn't. Well, let's say it is an above average chicken/rice weeknight meal. Also, i couldn't really taste the coconut in the rice--and I was looking forward to that.

Very feeling meal. This meal had a delicious scent throughout the home. It is very easy to make but it takes 2.5-3.0 hrs to cook prep and cook.

My rice didn't turn out well but the chicken was great! I offered my neighbors some and in 10 minutes I had a line outside my kitchen door.

This was so great! I didn't have a while chicken on hand, so I cooked this with 10 drumsticks instead. The meat was falling off the bone, and the flavors were great. I only have one complaint... We're from Texas and we're big spicy fans. I don't know if I got some bad habaneros or what, but this just wasn't spicy. Next time I make it, I think I'll add another pepper and maybe some cayenne powder.

Just made this dish. Awesome flavor!!! For some reason, I couldn't find a decent habanero so I used 2 jalapenos and left the seeds and membrane. Still not hot enough for ME, but I didn't really miss the heat. After the chicken was done and I tasted it with the incredible sauce already in the pot, I didn't even bother to make the gravy! It tasted PERFECT the way it was. Am I the only one who thought so?? This was my first time making one of Sunny's dishes. I've been a diehard Ina Garten fan, but I'll definitely be looking at more of Sunny's recipes. This is now one of my "go-to" recipes and I won't skip the habanero next time. Great dish!

I realized i blew it after I bought boneless chicken. That changes the cooking part to much shorter which didnt give the desired affect. It seemed like a lot of work for an ok dish, but again I made a big boo boo. Loved the rice...could not find pigeon peas so I used pinto beans. My seven year old loved it. I love you Sunny:

Enjoyed this very much, not too spicy w/habanero. And "Daddy", you are SUPPOSED to cook chicken until it's falling off the bone. So your dish wasn't unappealing, it was made correctly when it came off the bones. It's a STEW not whole pieces of chicken. As for Raymond, thanks for the recipe, but we can't find the first ingredient you listed, and the name was obviously changed because of whiners "it's not authentic"---Sunny is probably making it from memory of the flavors. It's not an insult to try to copy someone elses cooking. It means you loved it and want to try to make it yourself----that's FLATTERY.
