I grew up with dumplings round, the size of baseballs. Dropping them into the stock pan is easier than rolling them out. You can make them any size and they will float up to the top. Just don't let them touch before floating to the top :

I modified this dumpling recipe this way: put the flour and salt in a bowl, then slowly add hot broth. I made mine pretty thick (like paste and then spoon dropped them into my boiling stew making sure tehy didn't touch each other until they rose to the top. I simmered them for 10 minutes and they were PERFECT!!! Thanks Sunny this is a great recipe for someone who doesn't have the time to roll them out.

This is the first time I have attempted rolled dumplings. My mom made them often and I loved her 's. Until now , I have been too intimidated by the thought of rolling dough and actually getting it off the board. This recipe was easy to roll and Sunny's directions are great. The fresh herbs and use of chicken stock in place of water is brilliant. I wish I had thought of it ! I love her show, her name certainly reflects her sunny disposition.

I made this last night for dinner and my family was amazed. I was nervous since I had never made chicken & dumplings before, but found the recipe very easy to follow. Next time I will use ground pepper instead of whole peppercorns. I did add two carrots while cooking, but did remove them. Very good! Thanks Sunny!

This was great! The herb dumplings were fantastic. I am going to replace my old dumpling recipe with this one for now on. I made a few minor changes though. I used four pieces of chicken quarters with skin (thighs and legs instead of a whole chicken because it's what I had on hand and it's eaiser to pull from the bone later. I also like the veggies in mine at the end so I omitted the black peppercorns and used ground pepper instead. I also chopped up 3 stalks of celery and did not strain the broth. I just removed the herb bundle before adding the dumplings. Yum.

This was very easy to make and turned out perfectly. I only had dried herbs on hand but that was fine. I also used a package of skinned chicken legs instead of the whole chicken.

This was my first time making dumplings the dish was best the next day. I used a lot of flour and broth to get it the consitency that I wanted I like my broth thick. I love the herb flavor and putting herbs in the dumpling was right on. I only had fresh parsley the sage and thyme was dry, but still worked. My husband ate two bowls. I will be making this again. I maded my dumplings thin not thick.
