MUST use real butter to eliminate the gooey mess (tastes better anyway & also matches original recipe from the 1960's, as I remember it. Also, mini chips melt & spread better. Wonderful, easy recipe, great for when you want something sweet but don't want to leave the house or go to any trouble. Almost as easy as the yummy cheese straw recipe she took from a 1960's Kraft book as well (or a relative did years ago, and she didn't know it...I remember my mom making those for us in the 1970's from some products' cookbook, I figure most likely Kraft since cheese is the only product in the recipe that its company also produced cookbooks. Not saying she plagiarized the recipe, as she did say she doubled the cheese, so she did change something.

also great with finely chopped pecans on the chocolate after it melts a little, just sprinkle the pecans on and continue with the rest of the recipe.

This was SO good! I added pecans to it. Tasted like turtles. It is also good on Ritz crackers - I ran out of regular ones. This is sure a keeper.

I am making these for the second time tonight. I just love them and they are a big hit with everyone. They are very addictive. I have done several different toppings like toasted coconut flakes, toasted almond slivers, marshmallows that were toasted under the broilers for just a minute. The possibilities of toppings are endless. Great, great treat. Thank you Trisha.

This was so good! The soccer team is pleading for more! The girls loved it and so did all the parents! We made them with Ritz crackers. Buttery and salty! We now keep a big zip bag of them in the freezer for when the sweet tooth comes knockin. So good!!!
