Easy and tasty, though I cut the rolls into smaller pieces(about the size of rugelach. Also used Rainier cherries rather than Bing. Even better when warm, but greatly appreciated at a 4th of July party.

I got more complements on this simple recipe than on anything else I've baked in quite awhile. Rather than cut the phyllo into horizontal quarters, I did cut it in half in the long direction ("vertically", then placed the fruit at the top of each long piece, rolled it up, and then sliced this piece into quarters, about 1/2" thick. Worked really well. Also did with peaches + lime juice, and a mix of blueberries and blackberries.

Maybe I didn't understand the directions correctly, but my cherry filling did not fit in my phyllo rectangles and so it was a gooky mess when I took it out of the oven. The almonds were a bit overwhelming and overpowered the fresh cherries. It was tasty, just a little dull. Probably will not make again. Sad, too - I had high hopes.

Overall, cherries and almonds go great together. The phyllo available to me must be much smaller, so I only used 2 pieces, cut it into strips and folded into triangles instead.
