As a Southerner, I know my sweet potato pies. This is better than my mama's!

I made this pie for the Thanksgiving Holiday and it went over just great. I will be making it again on Christmas.

This pie has become an annual Thanksgiving treat for my family. One thing I change - I skin, cut into cubes, and steam the sweet potatoes instead of baking them - I find it saves 45 mins. to an hour and works just as well. This pie will beat a pumpkin pie any day! The crust is very good (and easy to make, and the maple flavored whipped cream sets it off way better than cool whip!

I have to admit, I cheated a little because of my own specific taste. I don't like REALLY sweet pie so I substituted the sweetened condensed milk for whole milk and left out the cloves, but added some Puerto Rican Rum instead for heightened flavor. Turned out great!!! I think making your own pie crust is a novelty idea, but I didnt have the time so I blind baked a frozen one for 6 minutes and then filled it. I also added 1.5 tablespoons of the rum to the whipped cream, really brings out the flavor in the pie.

I found the recipe to be fairly easy to follow and I've made it for about 2 years now.
It always is a hit and everyone, always wants to know what I did to make the pumpkin pie taste soooooooo good.
I began to make it with white sweet potatoes because everyone thought it was pumpkin pie. With white sweet potatoes...."THAT pie is DIVINE!!!!!" This is a great recipe to impress your in-laws.

This is a wonderful pie recipe that My Sister even enjoyed! Plus the maple whipped cream is out of this world. I was asked to make this one again. I did not make my own crust (I cheated I bought a whole wheat pie crust from Whole Foods Market that tasted like I slaved over it all day!
