If I read a recipe and suspect there may be something wrong I read the reviews. I learn so much from you all. Thank You, I think the concept for this pie is amazing it just needs more work. You'r all right, the berry mixture is a mess waiting to happen. I had prime firm blackberries and a good blackberry jam. The jam enhanced our less than perfect California berries with an extra dose of sweet, to balance that nice tartness I added 2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice to the jar of empty jam (jam was placed in mixing bowl then 2 tsp. of sugar, dissolved the sugar in the lemon juice and mixed it into the bowl of jam. Next, carefully folded the berries so NOT to mash them. Then, place bowl in fridge to put hard chill on it. Next, made a 1/2 batch of my favorite lemon meringue pie filling. After all is well chilled I poured the berry mixture over the crust, toped with the lemon filling and then toped with homemade whip cream and more berries for decoration. It was great! Very light, lots of flavor!

Mixing the blackberries and jam and then mashing them, made the mixture too juicy Unless you can eat an entire pie at once It made the pie crust soggy. no taste. what a waste of money and time to make. I would never make this again or try any of Bobby Deens recipes again. This really turned me off after spending $10.00 for the ingredients and it was such a mess.

What an EASY pie to throw together in a pinch, made this for my boss and she and our coworkers totally LOVED it!!! I used fresh blackberries and added a little sugar to them before mixing with the jam. Winner Winner!
