Ingredients

  • 2 pounds cooking apples, such as Winesap
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter

Directions

Core and quarter apples (do not peel). In a large heavy saucepan combine all ingredients and bring to a boil, covered, over high heat. As soon as ingredients begin to boil, lower heat to a simmer. Simmer apples, covered, for 20 minutes. Remove pan from heat and let apples stand, covered, for 10 minutes before serving.

Made the recipe with granny smith apples. Used this as a side dish to Giada's recipe for Pork with Sweet Onion Marmellata. ... Great compliments to each other.Read more

I made this recipe after dinner and served with vanilla ice cream. It is yummy and smells like a wonderful cider while it... cooks. I would definitely recommend it for a quick and easy treat!Read more

Easy but a little too sweet

Not sure if this is supposed to be a dinner side or dessert because the measurement of sugar was just too much. I used... slightly tart apples and it still came out too sweet. Would make again but with way less sugar.Read more
