I like Chef #1294037's ideas for additional ingredients. I use all that and I also like to add marshmallows to it for the extra goodness. Enough to cover everything is good. Big or small marshmallows will work, doesn't matter which kind you use.

So easy. And for the last guy, the recipe says peel and cut them into 2" chunks. By keeping them covered they cook in 20 min. I do think it also tastes good if you add a little tiny bit of cinnamon, nutmeg and a splash of vanilla at the end. Also if you have real maple syrup, a little splash of that gives them a nice taste.

This is truly the only recipe you'll ever need for Candied Yams. It's easy and it comes out great each and every time. It's nearly impossible to mess it up. I actually just ran across this recipe while surfing the net but had been preparing my Candied Yams this exact way for about 2 or 3 years. I've tried other methods ( baking but this is hands down the best!
I would suggest cutting all your yams as close to the same size as possible. Also, resist the urge to stir during cook time. It breaks up the yams. Only use enough water to barely cover your yams. If you follow these tips you'll have a perfect pot of Candied Yams on your hands.
Good luck!!!
