I would use as small as you can get red potatoes. But don't cut up the potatoes and put in pot, or they will get mushy. Keep potatoes whole, then cut up when serving. For some heat, you can add hot sauce at the end and I put in Old Bay season. I like that the recipe has the items timed as to when to put in the pot. We used a big turkey deep fryer pot for outdoors and boiled everything. Then scooped it up and dumped it out on the newspapers on the picnic table. Great BBQ crowd pleaser!
