I'd never cooked anything like this before and was thrilled at the result. I also had trouble finding the harissa. The online recipe doesn't distinguish between "spice mixture" and harissa and gives no amount for the latter, so that was a bit confusing. I guess I must have faked it perfectly--because we put this one in our "keeper" book.
The people who thought the vegetables were too bland with this may have under-done the spices (don't be afraid!. The squash absorbs just enough flavor from the fruit, olives and spices in the chicken that they are a nice balance to the much stronger flavors that surround them.

I cannot believe how highly this recipe is rated. I usually enjoy different spices in different types of cuisines. However, the cardamom was just too overpowering for me. It's a good thing I only made 6 thighs, because my fiance didn't want any. He tasted mine and made a funny face. In addition, the veggies were bland. Now I have to eat the leftovers bc I hate wasting food. I won't make this ever again.

Amazing recipe. So...instead of rice, I put a layer of cut-up potato under the onion. It was incredible. What flavor! Definitely a keeper!

This recipe is almost authentic, but not quite. Fresh cilantro is used in most Moroccan cuisine, not flat leaf parsley. My mother-in-law sends harissa to us directly from Casablanca. The spices taste different than the ones available here in the USA. I am slowly learning about the Moroccan way of cooking and I am delighted to say that I love it. I just wish chefs would not try to Americanize the cuisine of other countries. When I made this recipe, I used my tagine so the flavors would stay in the foods. My husband said it was OK, but not what he would find in Morocco.

I had such high hopes for this dish. Moroccan Chicken with Squash and Dried Plums is about 20% great tasting chicken (the chicken part really was fantastic and 80% mushy veggies that no one wanted. Alot of work for the garbage disposal. I would like to incorporate the chicken into another recipe for the future, but I wouldn't make this recipe again.

I thought that it was really delicious, but downgraded it a star because the zucchini gets really mushy. I'd either use harder vegetables or add them later in the cooking process next time.
