I followed Anonymous advice and added walnuts and rolled them in powdered sugar. They were ok but not fantastic.

My mother has been making these for years and hers are so much better. I mother suffed hers with pecans and rolled them in powdered sugar. They are a favorite at family holidays.

I love this recipe because it creates a fancy treat that is not time consuming to make. I followed Amy's advice and purchased the Medjool dates. These large, delicious dates were perfect for this recipe.
