Made my usual shrimp cocktail sauce (ketchup, horse radish, lemon, worcestershire then added Guy's ingredients (cucumber, red onion, avocado
and hot sauce. Did not use soda or water. I also added chopped green chiles and some V8 juice. I realize this is quite a stretch from the original recipe, but I still rate the original at 5 stars as Guy's additions made an absoultely awesome sauce along with the shrimp done exactly as the recipe dictates. Thanks Guy

I have been eating shrimp cocktail (coctel de camaro all my life, and I have never heard of soda being added to it. I do recommend using Clamato juice instead of water to get a really good taste to it. Once I try it, I will let ya'll know what is the real deal on this dish!

I ADMIT THE ONLY THING I REALLY DID WITH THIS RECIPE WAS MARINADE THE SHRIMP (cutting the salt by 1/2 GRILL IT AND SERVE IT WITH DRAWN BUTTER. WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE THE BEST GRILLED SHRIMP I'VE EVER HAD (HENCE THE 5 STARS.BUT A MEXICAN FRIEND OF MINE MAKE A COLD SHRIMP SOUP THAT IS OUTSTANDING AND AS I'M TOLD AN AUTHENTIC SPANISH DISH. NO SODA BUT ORANGE JUICE,V-8 JUICE,CLAMATO,STEAMED SHRIMP,LIME JUICE,ADVACADO,CILANTRO JALEPENO ETC.....

Super easy and the flavors were awesome. I didn't have time to grill the shrimp, so I used frozen cooked shrimp. My husband loved it, but I thought it was a little sweet. Next time, I'm gonna use less soda.

I think this recipe was too sweet with the soda. I like more for a spicy flavor for the sauce. The flavor was sweet when it hit your tongue, then had a slightly spicy finish.
