Solid recipe, but watch the bird size for cooking times. Closed cans? Bottles? Amazing. Use 1/2 can and put rub in the beer as well; careful, when you first put it in, it will foam over.

The rub is 4 equal parts of paprika, coarse ground black pepper, Kosher salt and brown sugar. It's great and you can use it on anything. An 8 pound bird (I use 'roasters' uses about 1/3 cup. Make what you need in equal parts....it goes great on ribs too.

To the idiot who tried this without opening the beer can - you're lucky you didn't wind up in the hospital, blinded or something. Next time, TURN YOUR CAPS OFF and try a little common sense. Are you REALLY that stupid? The rest of us will have no problem with safety issues.

This recipe is not for you if you can not read directions!!! Always use a 1/2 full beer can!!!!!

This is one of the best grilled chicken recipes around!!! It is a sure fire way to get moist and flavorful chicken every time. It always impresses guest and has everyone coming back for seconds. I use an onion or potato in the neck of the chicken to keep more or the steam inside the chicken.

Bottle?, Plastic cup?? (to: "be careful". Seriously, are you trying for a 'Darwin Award'? Are you pulling my leg? Next time try pouring 4oz. of your favorite beer into a clean and empty (metal soda CAN. Drink the remainder of the beer after the flame is off and the sharp objects put away.

My boyfriend had never tried beer can chicken before, so i printed this recipe for him to use! Seriously Awesome! And a note to the genius that used glass, don't try plastic it melts... pour out a can of soda or beer and pour half of your "import" beer in to the empty can. For a non-alcohol version, try orange soda, it's give the chicken a slight citrus flavor!

To the last poster: There is no way that you actually tried this recipe with a bottled beer. Step away from the grill. Really.

PS - Try the plastic cup, I'm sure it will work...

I can't stand, canned beer, so I tried it with a bottle of Dog Fish Head 90 Minute IPA. It was excellent, but kinda like eating catfish, you had to be careful of the bones (glass in thiis case.

Next time, I will pour the bottle into a plastic cup and cook the chicken over that.

My dear ALL CAPS - everything in life has the potential to be dangerous if you don't follow the directions...

"Open beer can and take several gulps (make them big gulps so that the can is half full."

NEVER PUT A SEALED CAN OF ANY LIQUID ON A HEAT SOURCE!

The recipe is good but there is no need for the oil, it's amazingly juicy as it is. As opposed to the buffoon who burnt themselves, once the chicken is done you must let it sit for a few minutes to calm down before you move it. If it's on a charcoal grill, pull the lid and slide chicken to the coolest part of the grill. A gas grill is easy, turn off the gas and leave the lid open. I make this recipe all the time and it's a smash with everyone.

My husband and I used an 11x7 inch metal baking pan and set the holder in the
midddle and surrounded it with potatoes, onions and carrots. I also used Simply
Oranic's Grilling Season for chicken on the outside and the inside. Instead of
the beer we used lemon-lime soda and poured half of the soda around the
vegetables. My son was here for supper and thought it was the moistest and
best tasting chicken ever. We were greatly pleased and will continue to use
this recipe for chicken on the grill.
