Total disappointment!! I bake a lot and was puzzled by the ingredient list, but made it anyway, Waste of time, not enough ginger, gross texture. Find another recipe

I made this recipe for the first time. I am not big on gingerbread, however this recipe was wonderful. I followed the recipe to a T. I dont feel all the bad remarks for this recipe are justified. Recipes are simply blueprints to helpwith your cooking. If something went wrong, then it was either you not following directions correctly, subbing items, (unsalted butter for salted butter, etc..etc..etc.. or make time off. Also, what one person may like, doesnt mean everyone will enjoy it. I personally love liver, my daughter hates it...But I think the creator of this recipe did a fine job.

Could people please not review a recipe until AFTER you've actually made it?

Overall a bad recipe, too little ginger and spice taste and bad consistency.

I was so ticked to find that these cookies i had made were so disgusting and rock hard. 2 years ago i made ginderbread cookies that were seriously awesome. I looked for the recipe again to make them for my family and thought i had found it. the picture for these things was the same. so thats my fault for trusting a picture. I felt that there were some things lacking from the list of ingredients, but I stuck to it anway and didnt change a thing. Im a pretty fair baker and I cant believe how bad these were. I was so disappointed. I cant believe I wasted my time on such an awful thing. This recipe like I said is lacking in the proper ingredients and should not have the time wasted on it.

I have not made these cookies yet but I plan to this weekend. I looked at the recipe and noticed it does not call for salt. Seems to me that the reason for mixed reviews is whether you use salted or unsalted butter. This makes the most sense to me as to why the cookies would either turn out great or bland.

I don't understand all the recent negative reviews. If you notice, prior to December 7, 2008, the reviews were mostly excellent - which is why I chose to make this recipe on December 6.

It makes me wonder if those people didn't read the recipe thoroughly, left out some ingredients or made substitutions, and then blamed the recipe when their cookies didn't turn out right.

I followed the recipe exactly as shown and had wonderful cookies! No additions, no substitutions and no problems at all, especially considering that I live in Colorado at an altitude of 7,000 feet, and all baking here is pretty tricky.

While the cookies I made were cooling, their spicy fragrance filled the house, and when my back was turned, my husband came into the kitchen and ate half the batch! Since I was making these to send out to family as Christmas gifts, I had to hide most of the rest of the cookies!

I will be baking these again this week, just for my husband this time.

As for baking, I rolled the dough out to 1/4 in and baked for 8 mins for small to medium cut-outs. As per another recipe I read, I declared them done when the sides were starting to harden.

I upped the amount of spices due to several people saying they were bland, and they were still lacking. The texture seems a bit wrong too. They were some what soft though, which is the biggest thing I was looking for, but still not "chewy". I guess I'll have to play more with the recipe though to get cookies as good as what I can buy.

Someone MUST have transcribed the recipe incorrectly. Frankly it was the WORST gingerbread cookie recipe I ever tasted. We made the dough as per the shown recipe and it was crumbs, like for scones or pie crust. It did not call for eggs at all. We added an additional 6 TBSP of milk, plus one egg and .75 cups additional dark brown sugar. Ugh, they were terrible. Sorry to sound harsh Bobby.
