I've made this recipe a dozen times...mostly as a cake....ever since the Throwdown aired. If they are not turning into the best red velvet ever then its YOU!!! You have to measure out everything exactly and pay close attn to the directions. I used the wrong oil once & it didn't work....the wrong flour- didn't work.... so trust me its you. Everyone who has ever tried this CAKE loves it & says I should sell them. I follow Teri's recipe and it WORKS!!!! Making sum today for my 4 yr old to take to class for her birthday.

GROSS!! I have made several other red velvet recipes (Martha Stewart, Paula Dean, etc and this was by far a HUGE waste of time and ingredents. I found the recipe in the Bobby Flay Throwdown Book, and Terri Wahl lost (and now I see why!The icing had too much cream cheese and not enough sugar. The cupcake was not teh best either. Don't bother on this one.

I read the reviews, made sure to measure everything perfectly, had the eggs and buttermilk at room temperature, slowly mixed in the sugar with the oil & these turned out perfect! I made them for my boyfriends birthday. His friends were jealous and his boss ate 3. If this recipe doesn't work for you, you did something wrong...

Although I'm not much of a red velvet cake person, these cupcakes are great! I especially love the cream cheese frosting!

Very good recipe. Cupcakes were light with a nice red color. I made a mistake and added 1/4 tsp more baking soda than the recipe called for. It made a difference in the chemical reaction within the cake. At first whiff the cake smelled like a bad reaction. So, don't make the same mistake. I only used about 2 Tbsp red food coloring because sometimes you can taste the die. I haven't used it myself but Wilton does make a no-taste red food coloring. I'll make this recipe again!

These cupcakes were delicious, they were so soft and moist they practically fell apart. i did a few things different. I first added a little more cocoa and added four chocolate chips in each cupcake.I added the flour I mix in 3 parts, i add a little flour mixture use the beater just to get it mix "enough to combine the ingredients then stir. When i had all the flour combined that's when I used the mixer. I was afraid i would over mix. I made 12 cupcake and a small cake because of time.
