Okay, these cupcakes are HORRIBLE! They use way to much oil and they are like spongecake and yet not even a spongecake, plus not even enough flour!! I checked the recipe over and over again it didn't work, way to liguidy. They need to add to and make this a better cupcake because you really would want to eat this for an enjoyable dessert. If this was on Cupcake Wars it would not win. I sure Bobby Flay won this one. As for the frosting, way to much, I ended up using a frosting from the Joy of Cooking.

I followed this recipe to a t, and was leery about using oil instead of butter.... for good reason!!!! These cupcakes were AWFUL!!!!! Very oily, didn't have much flavor, and a pretty gross amount of food coloring. You know when you are elbow deep in batter and having second thoughts about a recipe, and you think, oh well- I'm sure it will turn out fine? Yeah... not so much.

DON'T MAKE THESE! They are awful. Not really red velvet. Red velvet cupcakes should have way more cocoa than this recipe calls for. They are bland and don't taste or smell good. They are salty and oily. The frosting is good, but it makes enough for probably 6 dozen cupcakes. I have made this frosting before and will have to half it next time...

I made these today but I must have made a mistake. I triple checked the conversions but the batter was thin and when they cooked the red dye seemed to float to the top of the cupcake. Not very flavorful.I am a bit confused after reading other reviews.

Best cupcakes ever. I've been making these for over a year and they're demanded at every birthday party and family event, now. The cake is super moist and delicious. The frosting is rich and wonderful, but there is a bit much. I recommend halving the recipe.

I did not make the cream cheese frosting so this is only based off of the cupcake itself. After making them I thought I must have done something wrong! Sadly i did not, the texture of this cupcake is weird and did not taste like other red velvet cupcakes I have had in the past. Would NOTTTTT recommend!
