Nick, I'd substitute rootbeer for the beer in BBQ Sauce, leave out the brown sugar and taste as you go to see if you need any of the sugar and add it back incrementally until you get to the level of sweetness you want. For the beer in the slaw, leave it out entirely, it's only a 3rd of a cup and I can't see how that would make a big difference in the final product. Enjoy!

Wow this looks great. However I am a recovering alcoholic and I just can't have beer in the house whether I am cooking out the alcohol or not. Any substitution Ideas out there for this recipe would be appreciated though I know it just won't bee the same.

As a professional chef in the south, being from the north, I look for things that are warm n comforting, and down south one of those things is pork bbq..something that everyone is familiar with. This recipe is bold yet very flavorfull..it plays many different rolls on the taste buds..sweet, spicy and the smokey flavor is great..this really wakes up the taste buds!!!

My husband won't eat "green" so getting him to eat any type of slaw is a challenge but he LOVED this sandwich and asked for seconds.
This sandwich is bursting with flavor. The sweet and salty, spicy and smokey, it's just amazing!
I enjoy heat in a sandwich but i was nervous of the fresh jalepenos but together with everything else it is perfectly complimented!

If you like bold flavors this one is for you.
Had this recipe at my friends house, I could not wait to try it. It was all I expected and more. The flavors were intense. Very bold. And even though it was spicy it was not so spicy that you could not enjoy the flavors. A must try.

This sandwich is awesome!! what a variety of flavors, spicy, crunchy and definitely a prize winner!! I found the vinegar to be fine, I think this depends on each individuals taste buds actually, but no wonder she won!! Will definitely make again and again!!

WOW this definitely awakens the taste buds. It has it all, sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and spicy! I do not like creamy slaws so this slaw was the best. Light and crisp and a perfect match for this sandwich and although it is spicy it is not that to hot. I actually will use the slaw recipe again as a side dish. The BBQ sauce alone has a lot of vinegar so if I were to use it without the pineapple I would tone down the vinegar to about half but with the pineapple it was perfect.
This recipe is a must try for anyone that likes vinegar based barbecue. It takes some time but it truly is worth it. And for those that do no like vinegar based barbecue just tone down the vinegar to about half and make sure you and go a little heavy on the pineapple and it will surprise you.

This recipe was very impressive. I had my doubts about it, seemed like a lot of work and way to much vinegar but if you follow the recipe exactly as written, once it comes together it will amaze all. I am not a fan of vinegar barbeque but since my company was I did it as it stated and it came together amazingly.
Just don?t leave anything out, especially the pineapples.
I will make this again but only for a big party because it is a bit to much work for just two people. At least not unless it was a special occasion.
It is worth the time it takes to make it.

This is way too much work for the taste. This recipe is definitely not for someone who has little experience. I consider myself intermediate, but felt like a first time cook trying to get all the different components together and finally gave up, settling for the pork only. You must like vinegar to be able to consume the BBQ sauce, I was ok with it but others did not like it at all. Next time I?m out & see a $10.00 pulled pork sandwich I won?t complain about the price, they have earned it.

First off...very good flavor in the pork. Rub was good and will use again. BBQ sauce was good...different than what I was expecting. I recommend following the suggestion below of starting with 1/2 cup of vinegar first and then add to taste, unless you like a vinegar based BBQ sauce. Some of the chilies were a little hard to find (even in hispanic markets were chilies are bountiful. Slaw was WAY different then I expected. As mentioned in another post, instructions did not give detail on how to prepare the chilies in the slaw to I just removed the seeds and veins and chopped them up. I think the poblano might taste better if it was grilled or cooked first. Not a fan of the vinegar slaw. I prefer creamy slaws more. Will try another one next time. Pineapple was simple and AMAZING. Overall not bad but alot of work. Worth at least trying it once...then adjust to your liking.
