First, I love Paula Deen! I consider myself somewhat experinced when it comes to baking. I followed this recipe word for word and it came out terrible, beginning with the dough. I put the dough in the fridge overnight and the dough never even hardened. Then, when I baked the cookies, they turned out flat as a pancake and the taste was dreadful. If you make this, good luck.

After watching the show, the cookies looked so good, I jumped up and made a batch. My husband told me not to bother making any other type of cookie! Today I'm on my 4th batch to give away. Crunchy and chewy. Be sure to follow the recipe and use sanding sugar. These will be your faves!!!

This are great cookies. We had a blast making them at our cookie party last night. You do have to take them out of the fridge and put them right in the oven like they did on the show or they will not rise and be fluffy. Our first batch was perfect. The second batch sat out while "the girls" talked and the dough got too warm. We learned our lesson, though, and the third and forth were perfect.

I Just made these after seeing them on Paula Deen's cookie swap. These are the best chococlate cookies I've ever made. I found that if you let the dough warm up too much, it will be flat and thin. But, if you keep it cool and get it on the pan quick and don't overbake that they will be fluffy, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. I also didn't have and of that sand sugar, i just used regular sugar and it dissapeared. I think I'll use powdered sugar next time.

I just finished baking this recipe and my cookies spread a lot and came out extremely thin. They have a nice chewy chewy chocolate taste, but not pretty for a holiday cookie swap. I couldn't find sanding sugar. I rolled the first sheet of cookies in super fine sugar and it just disappeared into the cookie. I decided with the rest of the batch that I would either sprinkle with colored sugar as they come out of the oven so it will stick or dust with powdered sugar after they cool.

I love chocolate cookies at Christmas time! This recipe was good--a bit sweet though. I wonder if next time it would help by omitting the granulated rolling sugar all together and also using a full teaspoon of salt instead of 1/2 teaspoon--either that or salted butter.
I actually used butter flavored Crisco because I feel that it leaves the outside crispy and the inside chewy--which I like...
I just kept waiting for a little savory finish on these, but it was just sweet, sweet sweet. Maybe some roasted chopped walnuts too! :
They were pretty good.
Thanks

When I baked these they got very thin and ran to the edges of my pan. The dough was way too sticky like it didn't have enough flour. Not worth all of the calories in 2.5 sticks of butter.

I made these with my 3 year old and it was a great! They break very easily, so let them set for a few minutes before transfering to a rack.
