Did this cake taste great? Of course it did! Did you see how much butter went into it? That said, you really need an extremely large group of people to consume it. No one at my party (including me was able to eat their entire piece of cake. This cake is rich rich RICH and it's difficult to eat more than a tiny piece. It also takes at least as much time to make all the separate components as the directions suggest, even longer if you have to peel your own hazelnuts. It was really yummy and an excellent cake for an extra special occasion but I probably won't be making it again. Too little time, too many equally excellent and less time consuming recipes. Thank you for the recipe though! Everyone loved it!

The person that I made this for wanted just regular buttercream icing. I tasted it and tryed just the cake first, it had great texture but was just a little bit dry. I could not taste the hazelnut flavor at all. Once I tryed a bite with the icing it was not as dry but then all I coulf taste was the icing. The directions were very easy to follow! I will try it again with the filling and icing that was recommened with the recipe.

I like hazelnuts, but not peeling them so I made the cake with almonds, Amaretto, and almond extract and it came out great! A little dry, but still really good flavor and texture. I will moisten it up next time, but I like to stay as close to the original recipe as I can the first time. Thank you for sharing this one with us! I made the grapefruit cake from the URS show and it didn't go over well at all, but everyone really liked this one! Two down, two to go! Searching for the "perfect cake recipe".

This was the very first cake I ever made from scratch and it turned out perfectly. I found the recipe very easy to follow and the end result was delicious!!!!! Since it was my first cake there were a few things I did not do that would have made my life a lot easier. Before you spread the filling make sure to make a border of frosting around the layers. If you do not do this step your filling will drip down the sides of your cake. I recommend everyone try this recipe...

Can I used a Hazelnut flavored syrup instead of the liquer? I don't use any time of alcohol in my cooking.
Will I get the same effect if I use the syrup instead?

As soon as I saw you make this cake I knew I had to try it - hazelnuts are my absolute favorite! The recipe looked intimidating, but your directions were precise and I had no problem - it didn't even take as long as I expected, though I made the nuts a day in advance... I made three layers in 9"x1.5" pans and baked for 35 minutes instead of splitting the two larger layers. The filling was awesome and the frosting was heavenly. Since the cake has about 14,000 calories, I will wait a while before making it again, but it will definitely become a special occasion staple in my family. Thanks for sharing such a fabulous recipe!

Hey Deborah, Amazing cake. As I told you and said on the show I thought this cake should have won. I made everyones recipe and I saved this for last. I t took a good part of the day to make it but so worth it! The taste and texture were a delight! I did not end up with a cake as pretty as yours and did not add the chocolate cruls but all the rest I followed the directions. I loved the Hazelnut and chocolate together. You are an amazing artisit with a wonderful recipe. I relly enjoyed meeting you on URS. I WILL MAKE THIS CAKE FOR ALL SPECIAL EVENTS, GREAT JOB AND A GREAT PERSON!
