Ingredients
  • 2 Granny Smith apples
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 canned buttermilk biscuits
  • 4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Directions
Watch how to make this recipe.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

  • Peel, core and slice the apples vertically into 8 slices each. Squeeze the lemon into a bowl of water and add the apple slices to keep from turning brown.

  • In a medium saucepan, mix 1 cup water, 3/4 cup of the sugar, the butter and vanilla. Bring the sugar mixture to a boil over medium heat.

  • Separate each biscuit into 2 layers. Wrap a biscuit layer around a slice of apple, stretching the biscuit slightly to overlap, and seal on the bottom. Place the wrapped slices, sealed-side down, in a 9- by 12- by 2-inch casserole dish. Pour the hot sugar mixture over the apple slices. Mix the remaining 1/4 cup sugar with the cinnamon and sprinkle the mixture over the tops of the wrapped apples. Bake until golden brown, 35 minutes.

Excellent recipe and so easy to make. I've made this recipe several times now and it always turns out great   item not reviewed by moderator and published
Fantastic ! These are so yummy and delicious ! Made these with big , grand biscuits.  The only difference was I sliced the apples and sprinkled them with sugar and cinnamon too with a squeeze of lemon juice and tossed in a bowl and let them sit a bit before assembling. These taste great warm out of the oven by themselves.  Or with vanilla ice cream.  Delicious !!<br /> item not reviewed by moderator and published
Perfect. I have cooked most of my life and I created an account just to be able to rate this. I followed the recipe exactly except I added dried cranberries to the apples for color. I did have a bit of syrup left over so I think my pan is smaller than I thought. Served w herbed eggs and bacon for brunch and I realy only cared about the dumplings once I had a bite. I could eat the whole pan, even my mom who doesn't like breakfast is having seconds ! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Way too much dough and way tօo little aքքʟɛs. Yɛċɦɦ! Coyingly sweet and the combination of biscuit/sʏʀʊք ɮaҡɛɖ tօɢɛtɦɛʀ ʀɛռɖɛʀɛɖ a  tough, ɢʊʍʍʏ texture you couldn't cut with a ʄօʀҡ. Watched video and followed recipe to a tɛɛ...DISAPPOINTING!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
has anyone tried adding a few pecans on the top item not reviewed by moderator and published
i remember my mother rolling biscuit dough, placing diced apples on the dough with sugar and cinnamon.  All this was rolled up pinwheel style cutting into rounds.  A syrup was poured over all. Then baking until done.   item not reviewed by moderator and published
OMG - what a great idea!!  Biscuit dough from the refrigerated case in the store! Years ago in the late 40's and 50's my mom made apple dumplings with pie crust dough (home made of course) and we would have them in a bowl with milk and cinnamon/sugar for breakfast or even supper. I can't believe how good these are.... definitely rival my mom's dumplings. Thanks so much Trisha! Love your show too.  <br /> item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this last night and it was so good. I added cinnamon sugar to the apple before wrapping it. I'm definitely making this again.  item not reviewed by moderator and published

Made these last night and they were absolutely delicious.  I made them exactly as the recipe is written.  I loved them so much I took a plate full to my neighbors.  So glad I found this recipe.  I think my granddaughters 7 &amp; 10 will enjoy making these too. item not reviewed by moderator and published

This is an excellent recipe. I made the dumplings early and put them in the fridge. Then when I was ready to serve the dumplings I made the sauce, poured it over and baked. I skipped the lemon water step and my apples were fine. This is a great do ahead recipe! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Fantastic! Used Minnesota HoneyCrisp apples fresh from the Orchard. Quick and delicious! item not reviewed by moderator and published

Took 5 minutes to make and 35 minutes to wait. I am a desert junkie. The best desert I remember is a molten chocolate cake at Mortans. This apple dumpling recipe matched it. My wife and I consider it an A+ and are looking forward to making it for our family over the holidays. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Found these to bake up nice on top but very soggy on bottom. Would nor make again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this recipe tonight using firm peaches instead of apples and it was fabulous! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Loved this recipe! So delectable. Although, my one issue may just be my lack of kitchen experience, but when I took them out of the oven, the top was cooked to perfection but the bottom of the dumplings were soggy, it may just have been them being undercooked or just all the liquid in the pan. Either way it was amazing, but I was just curious if it was just me or not..? item not reviewed by moderator and published
Yes, it looked very tasty when Trisha made it...however, I cannot print a decent copy of it with the format you have...do you expect people to buy a cookbook one recipe..or do you expect youir viewers to the website to use their computers or devices to make the recipe...what is with this new format elininating the print friendly recipe menu???????? item not reviewed by moderator and published
Everybody is in love with this! It's a headliner in my recipe book. I quadrupled the vanilla and was very generous with the cinnamon sugar. We can't stop eating them, they are totally addicting! item not reviewed by moderator and published

We just love these apple dumplings and they are so easy to make. Thanks for the receipe, Trisha! item not reviewed by moderator and published
GREAT recipe! As others had commented, I was a little worried about the amount of liquid, but it was perfect! Did add a tiny dash of salt to the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Really want to try this with fresh peaches this summer. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Simply Awesome!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
These were simple &amp; tasted very good. Also, they use ingredients that I usually have on hand. I took them to my parents house straight out of the oven and we ate 2 each with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Everyone raved. Had to write recipe for them. Will definitely make again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Uh. Like all her other recipes, this is delicious! Super easy. I want to eat the whole thing. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Delicious and very easy. I agree with others and used 2 T cinnamon. I used a little more apple than called for, and sprinkled apple slices with a little sugar/cinnamon before folding biscuit over them. The liquid bakes into a delicious sauce...I might even make more next time because it really thickens when baking. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Tossed apples in cinnamon and sugar before wrapping in Crescent roll dough, delish! The hit of the Christmas Eve party and many comments even days after!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
There is no doubt this southern girl can cook...If you thought these could be any better didn't have biscuits on hand ......but did have crescent rolls and OM GOSH.....extra flakey....the sauce was perfect. Every time they are made the pan is scraped clean......Great for breakfast, dinner and supper....keep sharing Trish! item not reviewed by moderator and published
These were fantastic! I followed the recipe as written. My boyfriend loved them, too. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Very good! I successfully subbed coconut oil for the butter and while the sauce is thinner initially, it thickens upon sitting while cooling to an appropriate temperature for eating. Super easy! Can omit the water/lemon juice step if you work fast or with a partner! item not reviewed by moderator and published
delicious!!!!! I have made this 4 times, and everyone that has tasted it has loved it, I did cut back on the amount of cinnamon. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Very, very good but...will cut back on the amount of sugar and cinnamon bcuz that made them just a tad 2 sweet for me but were def good and will make again! item not reviewed by moderator and published
These were fantastic!!!. They were full of flavor, very moist and very, very easy to make. Great with ice cream or just a great cup of coffee. Family loved them. This will become a bi-weekly staple dessert in my home. Fully stocking up on the "big" biscuits and the apples. I even purchased an apple slicer thingy for this recipe. item not reviewed by moderator and published
YUM!!! this is deeeeeeeeelish! and soooooo easy! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Saw this made on her episode and my husband has been asking for it. It was easy to make and delicious!!!!! I usually am not a big fan of fruit desserts but this was great! I will definitely make this again and again. Love Trisha's show! item not reviewed by moderator and published
What do I think? Tasty! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Made these today, very good. I took the advice of other reviewers and cut the sugar to 3/4 cup. I also used 2 tsp of pumpkin pie spice and 2 tsp of cinnamon instead of all cinnamon. For a Thanksgiving twist I added 1-2 fresh cranberries to each dumpling along with the apples. A keeper! item not reviewed by moderator and published
OMG, I just made the apple dumplings my family handdown love this, thank you for sharing, I love your show item not reviewed by moderator and published
GREAT AND EASY LOVE YOUR DOWN TO EARTH SHOW item not reviewed by moderator and published
I have made these for my family before but today I made them for my besties birthday. Me and the girls chowed down on these and even though a couple of them don't eat many sweets they thought they were really good even without the icecream (they wanted the icecream). I have gotten nothing but good reviews with these and even requests for the recipe. Trisha, you go girl... item not reviewed by moderator and published
The texture was ok .But I was thrown by the color. Four teaspoons were way to many. I think the next time I will use less cinnamon on top and a little lemon juice on the apples before putting them in the dough. I always add a little lemon juice to my pies and tarts. item not reviewed by moderator and published
There awesome and easy to make it tastes like it took you all to make it, this is our favorite snack. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was a hit!! will make it again and again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
These were so easy and yummy! Outstanding! item not reviewed by moderator and published
My guys LOVED it!! I have some picky men in my house. I'm lucky I got a second dumpling! It was the easiest recipe I've ever made. I bought both generic and brand name biscuits. To be honest the generics came out better. Anyway. This recipe was made to the exact letter. Delicious!!! OH, and better the next day. You may think the liquid is too much....trust Trisha, use it all! OH man, wonderful. Thank you for another delicious recipe. item not reviewed by moderator and published
We make the same dish but using raw slices of sweet potato instead of apples. It is so yummy. This sounds awesome also. I might try making both at the same time. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I was skeptical once I saw the amount of liquid in the pan but the end result!!!!! Words cannot describe how simple and easy this was but for the taste I would be willing to put in effort. The end result is like the best part of an apple pie without the entire pie. We had these with vanilla ice cream and it was so delicious. The biscuits turn into a soft flaky crust. I made them as a sweet ending to a brunch and once the smell hit the kitchen everyone ate them first. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This truly was the best of the best!! So simple to make and could not believe the flavor. It will be very hard to ever make an apple pie again. The house smelled wonerful. The only tip I have is don't skimp on the bisquits. I did try with an off brand and it made a huge difference on wrapping them. Don't know why but it did. Pillsburry grands worked great. Just add whip cream!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is very good and super easy. You HAVE to serve it a little warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to make it even more fantastic. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made these for my family and some college kids and it was a hit! And the house smelled divine while it was baking. I was a little worried when I added all that liquid, but it reduced down to just a nice bit of thick syrup. I would use only 2-1/2 teaspooons of cinnamon next time and will cut down on the sugar a tad. Other than that, this is a winner of a recipe. And it's really quick and easy to assemble because I didn't bother with soaking the apples in lemon water! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This recipe was so quick, easy and delicious! It comes together fast so I didn't bother with soaking apples in lemon water. The dumplings were a huge hit at a gathering I took it to and I think I will be making it again and again. Thanks to Trisha...I think this was the first episode I watched, too! item not reviewed by moderator and published
So, yummy, super easy. Will be making this again and again. Thanks Tricia! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Really good and very easy to make. A little syrupy...fixed by removing dumplings from syrup and passing it around in a serving bowl and it was delicious over the ice cream!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I wish I could give this 100 stars... my mom says she loves you Trisha!! YUMMO!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Oh my gosh... This was so easy to make, and it was heavenly... maybe just a bit if wipped cream and your ready to go. When I was rolling the apples, I just them on a clean dish towel get the extra water off the apples..easy to roll!!! I will be making this again, and again..!!! Thankyou Trisha,: item not reviewed by moderator and published

I love these. i could not stop eating them. i was a little leary of pouring the sugar water mixture over the biscuits but i was pleasantly surprised they turned out so good. I ended up with 16 dumplings so I can only assume the serving is for 2 per person. thank you Trisha, I am so happy you have a cooking show. I love it!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Wow- what a wonderful fake-out! It was soooooo good, that your taste buds didn't have time to realize that the biscuit wasn't from scratch!!! And with a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting under this dumpling.....incredible!!! I asked my family 0-5 (5 being the ultimate they rated it 100+!!!Thank you Mrs. Yearwood item not reviewed by moderator and published
OMG get ready for the best dessert!. I have made this twice and my daughter helped me the second time and it only gets better. It was fast and easy! My 8 year old grandson made this (I watched him and loved it and spent quality time with him in the kitchen making something easy and good. He was so proud of his self for making the apples dumpling by his self. Gave him bragging rights. lol Thanks Trisha this is a keeper for sure. Love your show and love your easy recipes. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Let me tell you! I watched the show and could not wait until I tried it myself. I made them with Sunday dinner and there was none left. They were a hit and was asked to make them the followingsunday which I did; and of course the same thing happened like he first time I made them......there was not one single dumpling left! Thank You Tracey! item not reviewed by moderator and published
These are so easy and so amazing!!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
These are DELICIOUS!! I just made them tonight. I've been wanting to try them since I saw her make them on her show a couple of weeks ago. I only used 2 teaspoons of cinnamon instead of 4. I think 4 would have been too much. I baked them for 30 minutes instead of 35. They turned out perfect! My daughter and her friend loved them too. I can't wait to make them again. Thanks Trisha! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Oh My Holy Heck!!! These things are AWESOME!!!! A great dish for kids to help with, first thing being they are not messy to make!! Best part they are good, super good, extra super good!!! Did I say how good they are???? item not reviewed by moderator and published
So easy and so good. I have dietary fructose intolerance so I could not make this with apples. Instead I substituted peaches and it was soooooo good. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Trisha this is an amazing dish and I love it. I thought it wouldn't be this good due to how most recipes come out, but this was definitely a hit. item not reviewed by moderator and published
If the baking sheet is placed in the lower 1/3 of oven, that might solve the problem. Also, perhaps the oven needs to be calibrated. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Baste the top with some sauce. Delicious! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Please don't rate a recipe you haven't tried just because you are having trouble with printing. It's not fair to the overall ratings picture. I click on the red button on the side, then copy and paste the recipe in my word document, then print it. A little extra time, but easy. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Great recipe..problem may be your printer..I had no problem printing it out. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Made the dumplings. easy and tasty,.Your rating had nothing to do with the recipe. Your rating was for your printer!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Next time, complain directly to Food Network as this problem is not in any way related to the recipes. Shame on you for such a shoddy review when you haven't tried it. Also, is your hand broken? You could have easily written it down and made it then. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I've made this several times. I was wondering if you can prep the apples with the biscuits the night before and then do sauce in the morning and bake it.? Any ideas?? item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this the night before and reheated the next morning. 325 for 30 minutes. It was like fresh made. item not reviewed by moderator and published
