I too was suspicious of this recipe. Granted cooking a turkey this way for the first time was a major leap of faith (oh, how I wanted to open the oven door and peak inside, but didn't!. I bought my turkey(12.9 lb.--a little over recommended, and "did the deed" yesterday morning, Nov. 22, 2012!! Like many of the other reviewers, my turkey came out moist and tender & delicious!!! YUMMO!! Two negatives that do not warrant removing my 5 star rating: No roasting turkey smell in the house (maybe because the oven was never opened and doggone, it's hard to find a 12 lb. bird! :- Good to see from other reviewers that a couple pounds more and 30 minutes extra in the 500-degree oven worked also. Great too that there was no spattered oven to clean!! I'm a believer, for sure now!! I will not go back to the "old" way. An unexpected "blessing" to a wonderful Thanksgiving! Thanks again, Trisha! You go, girl!

This was WONDERFUL! So easy to prepare and cooked perfectly! I followed the recipe exactly and it came out perfect - could not have asked for a better turkey. It took about 6-1/2 hours for my oven to cool completely and it was still warm inside the roasting pan for a long time. I will definitely use this recipe from now on. Thanks for a GREAT recipe!

I was so glad that I watched Trisha's Thanksgiving show to learn about cooking a turkey this way. My family loved it and it was so easy and I was a little scared as well but it came out so great. I will never go back to using a bag or the old method. I have shared my my experience with so many. The drippings do make the best gravy. Trisha I want to thank you for sharing this receipe with your fans.

I was worried that this turkey wasn't going to turn out...scared all day long...but to my surprise the turkey came out completely done and so juicy...fall off the bone tender. I have recommended this for everyone to try. I will never again bake my turkeys like I did in the past. Thanks Trisha!!!

I was SO skeptical but tried the recipe today for Thanksgiving and it was GREAT! 12 pound turkey, the 2 cups of water, 1 hour in oven preheated to 500, then 4 hours in oven after turned off. It was perfect. I didn't think it would brown but it came out with wonderfully crispy flavorful skin. The juices made the best gravy I've ever had. I had some garlic cloves and fresh thyme in the refrig so I stuffed those in the cavities along with recommended fruit and veggies...but that's the only change I made. Thanks, Trisha - I'll never go back to the "old" way. Happy Thanksgiving!

Excellent recipe!! I was skeptical but after reading all the positive reviews, I decided to give the recipe a try. I am so glad that I did!!! This was the most moist, flavorful turkey that I have ever made. My family raved about the turkey and all fought for the leftovers. Give the recipe a try. It is EASY and DELICIOUS! The only way that I will make my turkeys from this day forward.

WOW! I prepared the recipe exactly as written and it was fantastic! My oven got cool after 2 hours and I thought my 12 lb. turkey did not cook fully but I was pleasantly surprised (after 4 hours,it was beautifully browned and falling off the bone. I found my new recipe for turkey. Thanks Trisha!

We used a 15lb fresh turkey, kept at 500 degrees for 1 1/2 hours, then turned off the oven and left in for 6 hours. After we took out of the oven, we left covered about another 30-40 minutes (we were transporting the turkey to another location. Came out very juicy and delicious. Easiest Thanksgiving turkey to prepare EVER! Meat fell off the bones. Trisha knows what she's doing!

Question for those that used and love it. How did you know it was done, "wait for oven to completely cool" is scary. Did you have a thermometer in the oven so you did not have to open to check temp? I really want to try this but need more information. Thanks to Food Network for the feedback, tried today, waited until I could not feel any warmth at the door, about 3.5 hours. The turkey was wonderful, as many have said it truely falls off the bone, great flavor, first time I can say for sure that we got every bit of the turkey off the bone.
