I've been using this recipe for years, and it's never failed. I even use the custard for the base for banana pudding.

I followed the instructions exactly and the cornstarch-sugar-milk mixture did not thicken after 7-8min so I added more time and it was still thin after I added the egg yolks.

I could only find imitation banana flavoring and it ruined the pie. If someone was to make this using the imitation banana extract I'd suggest adding only a tsp of it to start; it's a very off-putting flavor.

I didn't rate this because I didn't make the pie - just the whipped cream. I was looking for a more stable whipped cream and thought this recipe sounded genius, until I tried it, that is. Whipping hot marshmallow into ice-cold whipped cream is really just a bad idea. The only plus was licking all of the marshmallow off of the beaters, since that's where it all ended up.

I've been making this recipe for a few years, it is a special occasion and favorite request pie from those I've made it for. Our son's new girlfriend had asked if I would make one for dinner at her home last night even after telling her I hadn't made this in quite awhile. It turned out great as usual and she loved it.

This is an easy cream pie to make even if you don't make the Chantilly Cream. Just be sure to follow the directions, stir constantly and remember the timing is only an estimation, it may take you a little less or a little longer than 11 minutes to get the custard to thicken. Don't be afraid to turn your heat down, I have to turn mine down to medium-low once it begins to cook. The only change I ever make to this recipe is adding more bananas, I use most of the three banana's in the pie since I don't decorate the top with bananas.

You can't rush a cream pie or you'll get soupy, gooey, or goopey messes so make it when you have the time to pay attention to it. It is so worth it.

Everyone raved about this pie! Great idea with the banana extract instead of vanilla.....
Left out the chantilly cream topping and just served with cool whip.
Tried the same recipe, substituted coconut extract for banana, added 2 cups of shredded coconut.
Now I get to make the pies, not sure if that's good or not...

Hands down tasted like the best banana cream pie I have ever eaten, but it had the consistance of thick soup.

I made this pie after seeing the original airing w Tyler. The family loves this pie.
I don't find the filling to be soupy. As other reviewers have said. The filling comes out rather like custard. This is always a hit at the holiday times

I gave up on making banana cream pies, mine were coming out soupy and ended up in the trash.. This pie however came out great, better than Marie Calendars; it had the great flavor and texture, this pie barely made it to the table..
