Delicious! Easy to make! Next I'll be making the Food Netowork's Welsh Cookies to use more of the quart of buttermilk.

The first time I made biscuits I decided to use this recipe, my family LOVED them so soft and light as air, they gave me a lot of compliments, even said my biscuits were by far better than the biscuits we eat in a famous restaurant in my city. Tyler you did it again!!!

My family LOVED these. I halved the recipe since I didn't need that many and was still able to make about 10 biscuits. I didn't have buttermilk so I made some, and I didn't have shortening, so I used butter. I forgot to baste them while in the oven, but they turned out really well. My mother-in-law asked me for the recipe and my husband said they were some of the best. When I halved the recipe, I think I added 1 cup of buttermilk still and it worked out just fine. They reheat really well too, just wrap a papertowel around them before nuking in the microwave.

The biscuits rose well. They were a little salty but not inedible. If I were to try it again I would cut down on the salt. It may have just been my oven but they would have begun to burn if I had left them 20 minutes. I took them out after 18 minutes. My biscuit cutter is not 3" but they really need to be bigger than mine were. They were flaky but resembled towers, they rose so well on such a small base.

I use butter flavored shortening and my family goes crazy for these, especially with biscuits and gravy. These are by far the best biscuits we have found.

In Tyler's cookbook "Tyler Florence's Real Kitchen" there is a recipe for Buttermilk Biscuits (with Peach and Rosemary Spoon Fruit that is nearly identical to this one. The recipe in his book has a 1/4 cup of granulated sugar (sifted with the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt and it's lack in the recipe listed here might be why everyone is getting the overly salty and bitter leavening tastes.

Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews, but rather, I just dove into making these after watching this episode....sounds like others caught the same issues that I tasted in my biscuits...

I really didn't think they were horribly salty but what I didn't care for was the bitter taste of the leavening agents. Too much....I thought it was a lot when I read the recipe, but I usually have great luck with food network recipes so I ignored my gut and pressed on....

I didn't have buttermilk on hand, so I made my own, and I thought maybe that had an effect on the taste, but now I am pretty sure it was just too much leavening. We all make booboos.....so Tyler, we love ya buddy and we'll forgive you on this one....and it looks like it was already corrected in the alternate recipes I see:

I'm glad I read all of the reviews first so I didn't make a lot of the same mistakes other viewers did about adding too much salt/baking powder. I am going to give this a try today! I can't wait, they looked soo good on the show today. Wish me luck. Thanks Tyler
