My maiden voyage into Chicken and Dumplings. I cheated and used a pre-cooked roasted chicken, shredded the meat off the bone, then realized i didnt have enough; so I added a pound of ground chicken. Necessity is the mother of invention they say. However, the flour to broth ratio for the chicken base was off. It was way too runny, like soup. I thought it was supposed to be thick and creamy. I had to doctor this up a lot with thickeners. Four cups of broth would have been a good place to start, not SIX! Also, the dumplings were so easy to make, tender pillows of heaven, even my hubby who didn't think he'd like it, was lovin' it. Prefer this dumpling to the rolled-out ones that to me are like eating pasta strips in soup. However, there made enough dumpling batter for an army. Halving that would have been plenty.

Loved it!! I used a store bought rotisserie chicken, but that was all I changed. The dumplings were the best I've ever had, better than my Grandma Fletcher's and that's tough to beat. The chives and buttermilk really make a difference and not to over work the dough. My family loved it and it will be made again and again.

It's the best chicken and dumplings I've ever had!
The only problem is, the soup won't become thick enough to coat the spoon after simmer for about 15 mins, so I made more roux then it became thick. But it becomes to thick after put in dumplings. So next time I wont be worried if the soup doesn't look like thick enough.

I started obssesing over this dish when I watched Tyler make it on T.V. The recipe was so simple I could pretty much just go by memory. I had to pull up the recipe when I got to the dumpling part. Some dumplings call for very little liquid and can be really heavy but I prefer Tylers way. The dumplings were full of flavor and light. Love, love, love, it.

Oh Tyler! This was so good, even my picky, non-vegetable eating 12 year old loved it! He said, "Good Dumplings Mom!" It was a little time consuming for me getting home from work, but boy was it worth the wait. Was unable to find frozen pearl onions, but increased the peas, carrots and celery. Definitely a keeper, but one to be made on the weekend.

My husband says the best chicken and dumplings he's ever tasted and I agree! The chicken broth alone was outstanding and not too salty for our tastes. The only thing I changed was that I added a couple of tablespoons of cornstarch to thicken the sauce more and added an extra 5 minutes time softening the carrots and celery. The dumplings were spot on, fluffy and delicious. Everything about this dish was absolutely delicious. I look forward to making it for visitors as well as family.

My husband loves Chicken and Dumplings so I decided to give it a try, this recipe is easy to follow and came out awesome, he said it was the best he's tasted! I've made it a handful of times since then and it's always been a big hit, I didn't change anything about the recipe.
