Wow, Tyler was bragging about this chili dog recipe, so we made it for lunch today, and he has EVERY right to brag. This is the BEST chili dog I've absolutely ever eaten.
The crispy bun, the sweet taste from the onion, and mustard in the chili....AWESOME.
this is a no-doubt repeat. AWESOME.

We loved this chili dog recipe! Great flavor, but instead of 2 cups of ketchup, I used 1 cup of ketchup and 1 cup of tomato sauce. The toasting of the buns was a great addition. Loved these.

I was looking for an impromptu chili recipe to go over our Tater Tots (Sonic style. This recipe didn't taste like chili dog chili at all (too much ketchup, but did taste like Sloppy Joes. So, I broke out some onion buns and we really enjoyed it that way.

This as OK--but as many reviewers have stated, it is very sweet, not really very "chili" tasting. I like the basic concept, though. I think using tomato sauce instead of catsup and more chili powder would make it more chili like. The mustard was a nice addition.

I also liked the parboiling the hot dogs before grilling them. I tweaked the parboiling part by adding hot sauce, onion slices and garlic to the water and boiled the dogs in that flavored concoction. After grilling all of the dogs, I put the remaining fully grilled hot dogs back in the water and put it on simmer for people to get 2nds, 3rds, etc. The chilli was devoured before all of the hot dogs were finished.

This has good flavor, but a little to sweet for me. Maybe I'll use a tomato sauce next time.

I would never eat a bowl of chili this way, but this is a hot dog topping, not a regular chili. Also, two cups of ketchup is way to much, cut back a little and it is perfect!! Thanks tyler!
